ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (March 3, 2023) — A $10,000 grant will allow Augustana College to increase access to gender-affirming voice therapy for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals.

Mary Lind, a 1972 communication sciences and disorders graduate, provided the grant that will expand access to low-cost individual and group gender-affirming communication therapy provided by Augustana’s Barbara A Roseman Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (February 14, 2023) — A new partnership and state-of-the-art biometric technology is expected to boost the Augustana College Vikings esports team’s physical and mental performance.

Curia, a biometric technology-solutions company, and FITGMR, an esports-performance and player-development company, have partnered with Augustana to monitor and analyze the physical and mental performance of Vikings esports players during training and competition.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (February 13, 2023) — The Augustana Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr James Lambrecht, will perform concerts in Japan in March and April.

The fifty-person ensemble will perform pieces by Yasuhide Ito, Philip Sparke, Julie Giroux, David Maslanka, Frank Ticheli, and John Philip Sousa.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (February 10, 2023) — Augustana College students enrolled in the nature photography class taught by biology professor Dr Stephen Hager exhibited their work on campus January 31.

The fourteen students in the January term biology class explored their relationship with the natural world through photography. Dr Hager said students considered how they can use their relationship to nature for growth and inspiration and how that can be portrayed in photography.

Grant funding for a sustainability interface manager will boost the impact of the Upper Mississippi Center and the Center for the Advancement of Community Health and Wellness. The role will be a key leader in several of the centers’ ongoing efforts, including the sustainable watersheds project with the city of Davenport. Here, students are seen assessing the fish population in a local stream to determine the overall health of the watershed

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (February 8, 2023) — Step Afrika!, the first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping, will perform at Augustana College, Saturday, February 11. The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (February 7, 2023) — Augustana College announced more than 1,000 students were named to the Dean's List for the 2022-23 fall semester. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.
