AMES, IA (11/05/2015)(readMedia)-- Kaitlin Clevenger has been elected secretary of the Iowa State University Event Management Club for the 2015-16 academic year. Clevenger, who is from Davenport, Iowa, is a senior studying event management in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State.

The Event Management Club is for students interested in learning more about the field of event management, which ranges from directing trade shows and conferences to catering and wedding planning.

The Event Management major at Iowa State University is the only four-year accredited program of its kind in the state of Iowa and one of only a few in the Midwest. The program is one of the fastest-growing majors at Iowa State University with more than 450 students. The program is offered by the Department of Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State.

AMES, IA (10/15/2015)(readMedia)-- Raegan Czupka, from Eldridge, Iowa (52722), will be inducted into Eta Sigma Delta, an honor society for top students studying event and hospitality management. Czupka is a senior studying event management in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University.

Only the top students in event management and hospitality management can claim membership in Eta Sigma Delta, an international honor society that recognizes exceptional academic achievement. Eta Sigma Delta is administered by the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE), the leading international association devoted to the fields of event, hospitality, and tourism education.

Czupka will be inducted into Eta Sigma Delta on October 28, 2015, at a ceremony in the LeBaron Hall Conference Room on the Iowa State University campus in Ames

AMES, IA (10/08/2015)(readMedia)-- Rebecca Ness, of Muscatine, IA (52761) was selected as one of sixty College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) students to receive the Foreman Scholarship.

Ness, a student in Agricultural Business at Iowa State University, was selected for a combination of classroom performance and out-of-class leadership and volunteerism. The Fred Foreman scholarship is awarded to top students who serve the college by acting as peer mentors, club officers and representing the college on competitive teams with a preference for students in activities that assist in recruiting prospective students.

The Foreman Scholarship is renewable and can be received by students a maximum of three times to encourage continued participation. In addition, the scholarship features fifty-five $1,000 awards and five $5,000 awards, with top performing student leaders competing for the top five awards.

All Foreman Scholarship recipients are invited to be recognized at an annual dinner where they have the opportunity to meet with the family who funds the award. The students dine with Endowed Dean Wendy Wintersteen, the donors, CALS faculty and staff, and the other recipients of the award. In addition, speeches are offered by students, faculty and alumni paying tribute to the group's accomplishments and how they exemplify the values of the late Animal Science professor, Dr. Fred Foreman.

AMES, IA (08/24/2015)(readMedia)-- Samantha Matt, of Bettendorf majoring in pre-diet and exercise at Iowa State University, traveled to Valladolid, Spain for nearly two weeks to learn about the history and new trends in Spanish cuisine.

Matt and fellow students on the trip learned about the culture and traditional recipes as well as learned modern techniques in gastronomy in what is considered the hottest country in culinary arts. While in country, the group got 40 hours of hands-on experience in a new kitchen facility with renowned chef instructors seeing the diversity of traditional Spanish cuisine and new trends in gastronomy. In addition to learning culinary skills and techniques, students visited several food production facilities, noting the importance of the geographic locations in the marketing of traditional foods. All together these experiences provided the students with a whole new and unique view of food around the world.

The Agriculture Study Abroad Office in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences offers high quality international opportunities to students on all seven continents in a variety of programs open to all students in the college. Programs range in length and intensity of curriculum, and may be led by faculty or through an exchange program.

Raegan Czupka of Eldridge, Iowa (52748), a Senior in Event Management, will receive the Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management Cherry Pie Scholarship.

Jill Mekalson of Bettendorf, Iowa (52722), a Sophomore in Hospitality Management, will receive the Mary Ellen Lewis Scholarship in Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management.
