DAVENPORT – St. Ambrose University will host scholars from across the world in an academic exploration of its namesake saint, Saint Ambrose of Milan, beginning this afternoon, Friday April 6, and concluding on Sunday, April 8.

More than 40 scholars from all over the world will present research and dialogue during the three-day conference, “St. Ambrose of Milan: (Re-)Constructing Community.”

Four events are free and open to the public and the media.

6:30  p.m.  Friday, April 6:   Dr. Rita Lizzi's keynote talk on Friday night: "From Milan to the World: Ambrose and the Christian Community."

4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7: Dr. J. Warren Smith's keynote talk on Saturday afternoon, Ambrose and Augustine/teacher and pupil . 

7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7: An Evening with Ambrose and His Hymns, Saturday evening, with Fr. Brian Dunkle, SJ, with Dr. Natan Windt and the SAU Chamber Singers .  An instructive and sublime experience of music and theology .  Ambrosian hymns arranged by SAU Music Chair Bill Campbell, PhD.

2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 8: Spirituality Workshop — "Ours is the Ministry: The Spirituality of St. Ambrose" on Sunday afternoon with Fr. Brian Dunkle, SJ, and Fr. Allan Fitzgerald OSA..

SAU is the only institution of higher education in the U.S. named after the fourth-century politician, scholar, bishop and early leader of the Catholic Church. It is home to the Academy for the Study of St. Ambrose of Milan.
