DAVENPORT, IOWA (March 3, 2023) — Join us at Eastern for a three-week series of programs beginning Saturday, March 11, 3PM. Our guide Daniel Christian will lead you on a journey to explore the works and world of Dante Alighieri — and learn more about yourself in the process. Each week we will focus on one of the three parts of the “Divine Comedy”: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Participants are welcome to join in for any portion of the series.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (March 2, 2023) — This public talk provides insight into the compelling life of Gregoria Fraser Goins, an Afro-Dominican woman on the margins of African-American history. Born to a West Indian apothecary and an African-American doctor in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, in 1883, Goins and her mother relocated to the United States following her father’s untimely death. Goins lived most of her life amongst well-to-do African-Americans in Washington DC.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 15, 2023) — Come learn about John Atanasoff, an assistant professor in mathematics and physics at Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. Atanasoff traveled to Rock Island, Illinois, where he conceptualized the first digital computer in 1937. This event is brought to you in collaboration with Rock Island Public Library and Augustana College.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 7, 2023) — Come learn about Quad City civil-rights activists. Inspired by their participation in the historic 1963 March on Washington Quad City activists share their stories through a screening of the new documentary film I Am the Future: Standing on the Shoulders of the Past. Attendees can expect an in-person discussion is to follow the film. This event is presented by Glenda Guster and Progressive Action for the Common Good.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (January 30, 2023) — Celebrate #ColorOurCollections Week by picking up a take-home coloring kit from The Library and consider joining us in person for an evening of coloring. We have designed a coloring kit for you to enjoy and learn more about our area's local history and collections. Twenty kits will be available for pick up at Main, Eastern, and Fairmount. Kits are available to pick up Monday, February 6, through Friday, February 10, while supplies last.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (January 27, 2023) — In partnership with the Davenport Civil Rights Commission, The Library is hosting a program “Black History: The Fight For Civil Rights in Davenport” on Thursday, February 2, 6:30PM, Fairmount.

Did you know that Dred Scott lived in the Quad Cities? Learn more about local, historical black citizens from Davenport and the Quad Cities. This program will be presented by the Davenport Civil Rights Commission.

A vision board is a visual representation of your goals. You will be making your own vision board to inspire you to achieve your goals. Please bring a list of goals that you would like to achieve in 2023.
