Hardacre Century Celebration April 23 to feature dueling pianos, food and drink, classical atmosphere
TIPTON, Iowa—The Hardacre Theater will celebrate its 100th birthday in style.
The Hardacre Century Celebration commemorates the theater’s centennial—a major milestone—and will feature entertainment from the Chicago-based “dueling pianos” group Howl 2-Go, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, trivia and related contests, and door prizes. There will also be a cash bar.
The Hardacre Theater Preservation Association (HTPA) will host the event. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes reflecting their favorite movie seen at the Hardacre Theater. KGAN anchor Scott Sanborn will serve as the emcee.
The event will begin at 7 p.m., Saturday evening, April 23. The location is the Matthews Building at the Cedar County Fairgrounds west of Tipton.
Tickets are $30 for standard seating and $40 for “deluxe” seating (featuring table appetizers and other perks). Tickets will also be sold at the door for $50, if seats are still available. Purchase tickets online at thehardacre.org, at Family Foods in Tipton, or by contacting the Hardacre Theater Preservation Association at (319) 325-3974. Seating at the event is limited, so buying tickets in advance is recommended.
All proceeds from the event will go to the “Save the Hardacre” campaign.
“So few Iowa opera houses, like the Hardacre, still remain. This centennial event is a celebration of its legacy and a testament to its survival,” said Greg Brown, HTPA president. “The Hardacre Century Celebration is a one-of-a-kind event and a timeless celebration of the kind of entertainment the theater has brought to the community over the last 100 yeras. We’re looking forward to treating area residents to a lively evening full of music and fun.”
The Howl 2-Go dueling piano show is an interactive, live music show set to a variety of music, from classic rock to hip-hop to modern pop music. Howl 2-Go has performed shows from coast to coast and promised rollicking, high-energy good time.
The Hardacre Theater originally opened in April 1916 and closed in August 2013. The Hardacre Theater Preservation Association purchased the building in February 2014 and has been raising money to renovate and reopen the theater.
