LOCAL FILM TO HELP RAISE CANCER AWARENESS
"Animate My Heart" Premiers at the Green Room Theatre
"Animate My Heart" follows the story of a child that contracts cancer
at a young age. He attempts to fight this abysmal disease by probing
the depths of his imagination. In the face of imminent tragedy, his
mother finds it difficult to cope. The 50 minute film was locally
produced over the last year and utilizes native performers, composers,
and artists.
"This film was a very personal experience" says filmmaker Joe Boyle.
"My sister had cancer twice at a young age and still suffers ill
effects from the disease." The filming experience became even more
trying when the father of a cast member tragically succumbed to
cancer. Local performers Tracy Pelzer-Timm, Jonah Luebke, and Tom
Morrow star in the film. The musical score was composed and performed
by local performer Leah Knudsen, with selections by Jake Cowan and A.J.
Landman.
This film is the latest from local 22 year old
filmmaker Joe Boyle. He has been writing and directing films for the
last 10 years. His films have screened and won several awards in
various film festivals, ranging from local and regional events to
festivals in
Los Angeles,
Seattle, and
Canada.
"By screening this film to the public, I hope to help people remember
the horrors of this disease. I hope that the members of our community
will be impassioned to uplift and comfort current cancer patients and
to contribute either to finding a cure or preventing the disease in the
future," says Boyle.
"Animate My Heart" will open Friday, December 14th at the Green Room
Theatre, 1611 2nd Avenue, in the District of Rock Island. There will
be showings at 6PM and 9PM. The filmmaker will also be premiering a
new short film entitled, "A Plea for Everyman." Additionally, there
will be a special appearance by the local band The Post Mortems at the
9PM screening. Cost is only $5.
"When my sister had cancer, she was given a beautiful gift by the Make-A-Wish foundation. The family trip to
Florida
that we received gave her repose from her pain, if only for a short
while. I hope to be able to give at least a little bit of that joy to
another child." As so, a portion of the profits will be donated to the
Make-A-Wish foundation.
