Umphrey's McGee is a progressive rock/jam band from South Bend, Indiana whose music is often referred to as "progressive improvisation." In July 2004, the band was declared by Rolling Stone Magazine to "have become odds-on favorites in the next-Phish sweepstakes."

Though the band's approach to their live performances has much in common with Phish and the Grateful Dead (ever-changing setlists, constant improvisation, two sets per night, open-taping policy), they are much more influenced musically by progressive rock bands such as King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Frank Zappa, and Genesis, as well as heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden. The band also "identifies The Police, The Beatles, The Monkees, Nick D'Virgilio, and Led Zeppelin as primary influences with a reverence the members describe as 'Biblical.'" However, there really isn't a style of popular music that Umphrey's does not cover. Artists covered in concert by Umphrey's range from Lionel Richie to Metallica to Toto to Snoop Dogg to Paul Simon to Radiohead to The Rolling Stones.- wikipedia

Umphrey’s McGee recently announced that they will be playing the famous Bonnaroo Festival for the 5th consecutive year. The band will be playing in top billing alongside such heavyweights as Pearl Jam, Metallica, Jack Johnson, Kayne West and Robert Plant. The band also announced their addition to the Summer Camp festival in May, where they will be playing alongside The Flaming Lips.

“Umphrey’s McGee combines crisp song construction and vocal-harmony sunlight with a high-speed, improvised daring onstage.”- Rolling Stone

In the military, we always make sure we never leave a man behind.   But in society, we are quick to jeapordize the individual for the greater good of the collective!   In a Democracy, the majority is always right, and the laws reflect their will.   But is a majority of people always right, or is that really just mob rule?   Our Federal Constitution under Article IV Section 4, guarentees each state in the union a Republican form of Government, not a Democracy.   A Republic is a Government of laws, not of men.   Laws created in order to ensure protection to the individual, not a group.   In a Republic, society never leaves a citizen behind!   No one can infringe on the Individual's rights to Life, Liberty or Property so long as he/she allows the same respect for others.   Here is a Freedom Creed I believe every American should hold close to their heart, for it is the only belief that ensures that we never leave a man behind again!

March 11, 2008 - Jason Tanamor, award-winning writer and author, has a new novel out called, "Anonymous." The novel is a series of stories. Stories are what make the world go round. And they're also what keep a group of prisoners going. Everyday, locked up in their cell, these prisoners spill their guts to the others through toilets and drain pipes, hoping to "pass" the time until they are able to see the light of day. Some of the stories, they disclose things that only locked up criminals should hear. The other stories, they explain why most people would agree that this group of misfits should be locked up. An excerpt, as well as ordering information, is available at: http://www.createspace.com/3334599.

Influenced by Chuck Palahniuk ("Fight Club") and Bret Easton Ellis ("American Psycho"), Tanamor does not disappoint readers of well-crafted, intense, and intelligent writing. "There is a strong mix of humor and in your face craftsmanship," commented Tanamor. "I like to write about the stories that people don't necessarily like to tell, but like to hear." Palahniuk is so much of an influence, "Anonymous" is an homage to the author, written in the style of the "Fight Club" writer.

Jason Tanamor has won honors for his short screenplay, In My Dreams, and has been praised and supported by industry professionals. "Tanamor's humor has the appeal of Saturday Night Live's 'Deep Thoughts.' It's not just offbeat - it's an entirely different time signature. Giving rise to plenty of double-takes and raised eyebrows, the writing is simple and uproariously funny. The result will leave readers in stitches," said Jenna Glatzer, author of "Celine Dion: For Keeps." He also has support from his hero, Chuck Palahniuk, and Stan Stankos, writer for top comedian George Lopez.

"Anonymous" also is available at major booksellers like Amazon.com and Tanamor's MySpace page at: http://www.myspace.com/zoiks_online. For interviews with Jason Tanamor, please email e-mail jasontanamor@yahoo.com.

PRESS RELEASE

March 9, 2008

Homeless and previously homeless individuals in Davenport are being offered a unique opportunity–to submit their creative writing and artwork for possible inclusion in a literary magazine called the Poetry Street Project.

The Poetry Street Project was created by Western Illinois University English graduate student Catt Foy, in response to a course she is taking on public writing.  Foy, who herself has experienced homelessness, wanted to bring the idea of creative works and homelessness together.  "I thought about writing about my own experiences at first, but then it occurred to me that it would be much better to offer an opportunity to others who are homeless, or who have been homeless, to showcase their talents," Foy said.  "There are many people of talent who never get a chance to shine because of their circumstances," she reported.  Foy believes that having one`s talents recognized is one potential source of hope for those experiencing the indignity of struggling with extreme poverty.

The Poetry Street Project magazine hopes to include poetry, essays, and short stories, as well as black and white artwork and photographs.  Foy, who is also a writer and artist, has designed the cover, and hopes to take photographs of some of the participants.

Submissions will be taken until March 31, 2008 and the publication will be launched sometime in late April or early May.  Submission forms can be found at the Davenport Public Library`s Main Branch, or at the Midwest Writing Center, located on the third floor of Bucktown Center for the Arts, or by contacting Foy.  A panel of judges will select the submissions that will be included.  "It will be impossible to print every submission we receive, since we have limited space," said Foy. "But if this issue proves to be successful, perhaps there will be future issues."  Foy encourages everyone who has experienced homelessness to submit original creative work.  Contributors can remain anonymous, if they prefer, or they can use a nickname, pen name or street name.  Contributors will be entered into a drawing for a one-year membership to the Midwest Writing Center, where they can receive feedback on their work, work on computers located at the Center, and participate in other literary events.

"It is my hope that the artwork and writing in this magazine will help expose people of talent to possible venues for publication or to promote their art," said Foy.  "Maybe that one poem, or that one drawing will open up opportunities that the creator might not otherwise have ever had."

For more information on the Poetry Street Project, please contact Catt Foy at cattfoy@earthlink.net, or by calling 563-323-0481.  Regular blog postings will report the progress of the project at http://poetrystreet.blogspot.com.  Donations to support the project are also welcome.  Foy also welcomes interviews on the project.
