SPRINGFIELD - Governor Bruce Rauner announced today he has made appointments to the Workers' Compensation Commission, the Illinois Finance Authority, the Illinois Workforce Investment Board and the Illinois Civil Service Commission.

Name: Christina Hemenway

Position: Arbitrator - Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission

Governor Bruce Rauner has appointed Christina Hemenway to the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission as an arbitrator. She has been an attorney specializing in workers' compensation claims for more than 20 years.

Currently, Hemenway works for COUNTRY Financial as a workers' compensation claims attorney where she manages catastrophic claims and employer liability and coverage lawsuits. In addition, she is a subject matter expert for the company Previously, she was the supervisor for the department.

Hemenway is a member of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce's Workers' Compensation Committee, the Property Casualty Insurers' Workers' Compensation and Medicare Committees, and is a member of the Illinois Advisory Committee for the Workers' Compensation Research Institute.

Hemenway is a graduate of Missouri State University and earned her law degree from the University of Missouri. She lives in Lincoln.

Name: Arlene A. Juracek

Position: Director - Illinois Finance Authority

Governor Bruce Rauner has appointed Arlene Juracek the Director of the Illinois Finance Authority. Juracek is currently the Mayor of Mt. Prospect and brings more than 40 years of experience in the private and public sectors to the position.

Juracek has been the Mayor of Mt. Prospect since 2013, prior to that she was a Village Trustee for six years. Most recently, she served as the Acting Director of the Illinois Power Agency where she was responsible for power and energy procurement, as well as the planning for Illinois' two major electric utilities, ComEd and Ameren.

Prior to her work for the State of Illinois, Juracek was the Vice President of Energy Acquisition at ComEd, where she worked for nearly 35 years.

Juracek is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology. She earned a master's degree from Northwestern University in management. She lives in Mt. Prospect.

Name: Adam Israelov

Position: Member - Illinois Finance Authority

Governor Bruce Rauner has appointed Adam Israelov to the Illinois Finance Authority. Israelov has a unique legal and financial background, as well as an international perspective that he brings to the position.

Israelov is currently an associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. He oversees private equity funds as well as public and private companies in the U.S. and cross-border transactions. Prior to his work at Kirkland & Ellis, Israelov served as a Fulbright-Nehru Student Research Fellow for the United States Department of State in New Delhi, India. He conducted fieldwork on the topics of corporate fiduciary duties and corporate social responsibility.

Israelov holds a bachelor's degree in risk management and insurance from Georgia State University and a law degree from Northwestern University School of Law. He lives in Chicago.

Name: Michael E. Massie

Position: Member - Illinois Workforce Investment Board

Governor Bruce Rauner has reappointed Michael Massie to the Illinois Workforce Investment Board. He has served on the board since 2011 and brings more than 40 years of experience as an attorney to the position.

Currently, Massie is a partner at Massie & Quick, LLC. His area of practice includes agricultural issues, estate planning, business planning, real estate and wind energy. His energy and agriculture practice spans both the United States and international areas.

In addition to his service on the Illinois Workforce Investment Board, he serves on the Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural Education and the Illinois Pathways Advisory Council. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Western Illinois University teaching agricultural law. He is also a veteran, having served in the Air Force from 1972-1973.

Massie earned his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Illinois. He lives in Dahinda.

Name: William Schroeder

Position: Member - Illinois Civil Service Commission

Governor Bruce Rauner has appointed William Schroeder to the Illinois Civil Service Commission. He brings regional diversity and experience as an attorney to the board.

Schroeder has been a licensed attorney since 1969. Most recently, he has been a law professor at a number of universities across the country including Southern Illinois University and Washington University in St. Louis.

In addition to his work as a professor, Schroeder worked in private practice and as a prosecutor at the state and county levels in Massachusetts.

Schroeder earned his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Illinois. He also earned a Master of Laws degree from Harvard University. He lives in Nashville, Illinois.

Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees

Governor Bruce Rauner has also designated Southern Illinois University-Carbondale student Allen Shelton as the voting representative on the SIU Board of Trustees.

Today we join with our families, neighbors and friends to stand together and remember those whose lives were taken when our nation was attacked on this tragic day 14 years ago. We are eternally grateful to the firefighters, police, EMTs, and other first responders who risked their own lives on September 11^th to save their fellow Americans. We must also pause today to honor those servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

In the years since the tragedy, we have honored those we lost with a National Day of Service and Remembrance. This is a time for us to come together to make a difference in our communities. It also provides a living reminder of hope and gives comfort to those whose lives were forever changed.

We also must care for those who rushed towards the building saving an untold number of lives. To support these heroes, Congress passed the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act in 2010. I was proud to support this legislation, which finally allowed over 70,000 9/11 responders and survivors to access medical monitoring and treatment for their injuries and illnesses.

Unfortunately, this important law expires in October and Congress must act now to extend it and maintain coverage for these first responders.  Please be assured that I will continue to fight every day for the selfless individuals who put protecting and helping others above their own safety.

Fourteen years ago, we were attacked by terrorists seeking to tear our country apart. Let us come together again on this solemn anniversary to redouble our commitment to honoring the legacy of those we lost by making our great nation event stronger and more steadfast.

Iowa's Second District

(DES MOINES) - Jimmy Centers, who has served as communications director for Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds since December 2013, and has worked for Branstad-Reynolds in various capacities since 2009, will depart the governor's office to pursue a career in the private sector. Centers' last day in the Branstad-Reynolds administration will be Friday, September 25. His new private sector opportunity will be announced at a later date by his new employer.

Ben Hammes (Ham-mess), who has served as the director of appointments to Iowa's boards and commissions and as a policy advisor in the Branstad-Reynolds administration since January 2014, will succeed Centers as communications director.

"It has been an incredible honor to serve as the communications director for Governor Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Reynolds and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to serve in their administration," said Centers. "I will always remember the governor's and lieutenant governor's tireless commitment and passion to serve the people of Iowa and their steadfast commitment to do what is right for the state of Iowa. Ben Hammes will do an exceptional job as the new communications director for the administration."

Branstad and Reynolds offered their appreciation for Centers' service.

"Lieutenant Governor Reynolds and I have enjoyed working with Jimmy since 2009 when he served as a field director in Northeast Iowa on our 2010 gubernatorial campaign," said Branstad. "Jimmy has served in several capacities in our administration, including scheduling, deputy communications director and communications director. In each role, he brought energy, dedication and a tremendous work ethic while always looking for ways to evolve and improve our office's communications delivery and reach. Jimmy Centers, 28, is a Peoria, Ill., native and a graduate of the University of Iowa.  During his time leading communications for Gov. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Reynolds, Centers leveraged emerging social media like Instagram, Snapchat, Meerkat and Periscope while managing and crafting governor's office messaging, coordinating communications from Iowa executive branch departments and agencies, writing speeches for the governor and lt. governor, organizing hundreds of events and press conferences, upholding the administration's steadfast commitment to transparency by handling all media inquiries, and being the on-the-record spokesman for Branstad and Reynolds. Ben Hammes, 29, is a Story City, Iowa, native and graduated with a degree in political communications from the University of Northern Iowa in 2008.  Upon graduation, Hammes worked for Senator Charles Grassley in Washington, D.C. for just short of 3 years as a staff assistant and legislative correspondent.  He returned to Iowa in 2011 and worked for Congressman Tom Latham both in an official capacity and on his re-election campaigns until his announced retirement in late 2013.  Hammes has since served the administration in variety of capacities.  He and his wife, Morgan, reside in Clive.   A photo of Hammes can be found here.
