DES MOINES, IOWA (November 5, 2019) — On Thursday, November 7, 11:30AM CST, the National Wildlife Federation will host US Armed Services veterans State Representative Brian Meyer and nonprofit leader Jim Mower for a veteran roundtable discussion on how climate change is impacting America’s national security.   In 2019, Iowa set a new record for the wettest 12-month period since 1895 and both farmers and researchers agree: climate change is driving the extreme rainfall that led to our state’s $2 billion flood. Despite the need for urgent climate action, Senator Joni Ernst continues to stand by as the Trump administration rolls back critical climate protections and thwarts America’s transition to a 100% clean energy economy. It is critical that Iowa’s federal leaders support a clean energy economy and take action to address climate change, which is making extreme weather more frequent and severe and jeopardizing our military readiness.
