ALERT – COUNTERFIT $100 BILLS

From Investigator Anthony Themas with the LeClaire Police Department, 2/4/16:

In the last 2 weeks a counterfeit $100 bill was used at two different locations in Le Claire.  There have been multiple businesses in Davenport along 53rd where it has occurred also.  The serial number of the bill has been the same at every location.

The bill is 1990 Series with Serial number K44932793A. Please be advised that in both instances in Le Claire the counterfeit pen was used and did not indicate a counterfeit.  THE PENS WILL NOT SHOW THE BILL IS A COUNTERFEIT.  This leads us to believe the bills are being bleached and reprinted.

There was video of the subject who used the last bill in Le Claire.  He was a black male with long dreads.  However, with the number of counterfeit bills in the area there are most likely multiple individuals attempting to pass these bills through local businesses.  Please advise your employees to be very diligent in examining the bill’s serial number.  If someone attempts to use a bill with this serial number contact the Le Claire Police Department immediately.  Any description of the individual trying to use the bill or the vehicle he/she is driving will be helpful but please do not put yourself in any danger to obtain this information.

The Le Claire Police Department is working with the US Secret Service in this matter.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,

Tony Themas, Investigator, Le Claire Police Department
