Artists Shine in May

Find your inspiration in the Quad Cities with all of the creative work happening in May. Gallery Hop! takes place on May 6 with artists on-site in The District in downtown Rock Island, Illinois. Celebrate the creative lives of local artists John & Isabel Bloom who studied under Grant Wood, with the Village in Bloom on May 7 in the Village of East Davenport, Iowa. The Festival features the fine art and performance art of local artists and performers. Discover artistic treasures from across the country at the free Beaux Arts Fair on the Figge Art Museum Plaza in Davenport, Iowa, on May 7-8. Find more places to visit.

"Old" Stuff in the Quad Cities

Catch glimpses of what the Quad Cities looked like thousands of years ago. The Black Hawk State Historic Site was first occupied by Native Americans as long as 12,000 years ago. The Hauberg Museum shows what their lives were like. The Colonel Davenport House opens for the season on May 1. Built in 1833, learn what it was like to live as a pioneer. The Rock Island Arsenal Museum follows the history of this military installation from 1804 to today. Visit a former stage coach stop of the 1860s, and the Walnut Grove Pioneer Village has its Heritage Days on May 29-30. Tour the homes of John Deere's son and granddaughter. The Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman houses in Moline were built in the late 1800s. Find more places to visit.

Kick Off to Summer

The Quad Cities Criterium, contested each year on Memorial Day, celebrates over 50 years of racing.  This year on Monday, May 30, the 400 cyclists from throughout the U.S. will start/finish in the heart of the Village of East Davenport.  There are many races throughout the day.  There will be a monitored Kids Zone Play area, and a kid's race at 3:30 p.m.  The Rock Island Arsenal holds a service on Monday at 10:45 a.m. at the National Cemetery.  The Quad Cities River Bandits have a 4-game homestand over Memorial Day Weekend.  Take in a night at the #1 minor league ballpark!  The Backwater Gamblers present water ski shows on Sunday and Memorial Day.
