DAVENPORT, Iowa — Quad Cities River Bandits starting pitcher, Jose Hernandez, has been named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for July 11 through July 17. Hernandez made two starts during the week, going 2-0 and allowing just one unearned run in 13 combined innings. Hernandez issued one walk during the week while striking out 19 batters - including a career-high 13 in six innings on Saturday

Hernandez is the third consecutive River Bandit to win the award, following Albert Abreu and Elieser Hernandez over the last two weeks. It is also the fourth time in five weeks a Bandit has earned the weekly honor. Jose Hernandez started the streak with his first Midwest League Pitcher of the Week honors for June 12 through 19. Overall, Jose Hernandez has a 3-2 record with a 2.66 ERA in 17 games this season.

In his first start of the week, Hernandez went seven innings and allowed just one unearned run - due to three errors in the fourth inning - en route to a win over the Clinton LumberKings. Hernandez struck out six batters and issued one walk in the win, allowing just one hit. In his second start of the week, Hernandez went six innings in game two of a scheduled doubleheader in Eastlake, Ohio against the Lake County Captains. Hernandez struck out a career-high 13 batters without issuing a walk while scattering five hits over six scoreless innings to earn his second win of the week.

Hernandez and the River Bandits return to action on Wednesday, when they begin a nine-game, ten-day homestand. The Bandits host the Dayton Dragons at 7:00 p.m. CT Wednesday night, beginning the three-game set and only meetings between the inter-division foes this season. Yoanys Quiala (1-7, 4.35) gets the start for the River Bandits. It’s a Wacky Wednesday with $10 all-you-can-ride passes.
