Dear Friend,

During this time of the year, when we are surrounded by friends and loved ones, we give thanks. While reflecting on what we are most thankful for, we recognize that we can give back to those folks in our communities who may be less fortunate. I have always said that Iowans are some of the most civic-minded individuals, and they take a vested interest in their communities and helping their neighbors. Every Iowan deserves to enjoy the holidays, and a helping hand from a volunteer can help brighten someone’s day this holiday season.

As volunteers across the State of Iowa serve their communities this season, we must ensure they have the resources they need to serve their neighbors and communities.  I was proud to support the work of our nations’ selfless volunteers by authoring the Volunteer Generation Fund. This legislation, which was passed into law in 2009, continues to strengthen our volunteer organizations and improve outreach, giving more volunteers the opportunity to lend their time and address the important needs of their individual communities.

This Thanksgiving, I look forward to joining my fellow Iowans in giving back and reflecting on the many things for which we are thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving from my family to you and yours,

Dave Loebsack
