Putnam Museum Opens New Science Center

The new Science Center at the Putnam Museum in Davenport, Iowa, is comprised of a variety of 45 fun, hands-on interactive stations dedicated to key aspects of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. The "Innovation" section, for example, showcases aerospace, robotics, architecture and structure, design and engineering, film and music. The "How Things Work" section immerses visitors in simple machines, electricity and magnets, and light and sound.

Artists Shine in May

Celebrate the creative lives of artists John & Isabel Bloom who studied under Grant Wood, with the Village in Bloom Festival of the Arts on Saturday, May 3rd from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Village of East Davenport, Davenport, Iowa. The Festival features the fine art and performance art of local artists and performers. Performance venues include an outdoor stage, indoor theater, park, and the historic East Village Fire Station.

On Saturday, May 10 from 6-10 pm, Venus Envy takes place at Bucktown Center for the Arts in downtown Davenport, Iowa. The event is a celebration of female creativity, showcased through the art demonstrations of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, multimedia installations, and written and spoken word.

The District in downtown Rock Island, Illinois, presents "Dirty Art" on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25 from 12-6 p.m. each day. This brand-new, two-day interactive free art event allows visitors the opportunity to be part of the creation of art by actually doing and getting their hands "Dirty" in the process. In addition to "Dirty Art," The District will also present the "1st Annual District Peepshow" - a sculpture competition featuring works of art made with the popular marshmallow Peeps.

  • Gallery Hop! takes place on Friday, May 2nd from 6-10 p.m. with artists on-site in the downtown businesses in The District in downtown Rock Island, Illinois.
  • Take a drive to visit more than 30 artists at their studios during the Mississippi River Valley Art Drive on May 2-3. Get the map at www.mrvad.com.
  • Discover artistic treasures at the free Beaux Arts Fair. Artists come from across the country to set up shop on the Figge Art Museum Plaza in downtown Davenport, Iowa, on May 10-11.
