ROCK ISLAND, IL – February  2016 –Gilda’s Club, in partnership with Living Proof Exhibit and sponsored by UnityPoint Health Trinity, is hosting Marla Andich in a FREE workshop called Creative Sessions: Jewelry Making on Thursday, February 25th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Icons Martini (124 18th Street, Rock Island, IL).

Need just the right pair of earrings to complete your outfit?  Learn the basics of beading to create earrings and charms for yourself or to give as a gift from local artist Marla Andich. Bring jewelry making tools if you have them.

Creative Sessions is collaboration between Gilda’s Club and Living Proof Exhibit that offers art therapy to cancer patients and survivors at no charge. Creative Sessions are held monthly from February through November.

“Art is a way of escape, going to a place where there is no cancer,” said LaNae, a six-year cancer survivor, of Creative Sessions.

Unique to this year, each month will feature a different artist instructing a session on his or her passion. Three sessions, such as this one, will be offered at Illinois locations.

Andich is a breast cancer survivor. She is retired from Black Hawk College, where she taught in their alternative high school and coordinated a career and transition program for the students. She has used her jewelry to fundraise for her Relay for Life team, Marla's Marvels, the Norma-Leah Ovarian Cancer Initiative, and The Rock Island Library Foundation. Her jewelry has been featured in the Living Proof Exhibit display at the Figge Art Museum and the Peoria Library.  She is also a crocheter and polymer clay artist.
