Modern Woodmen Park lights up 105-foot wheel for the summer

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The 105-foot Ferris wheel at Modern Woodmen Park is now open for the 2016 season. The River Bandits announced Tuesday that the wheel will be operational for their home game on Wednesday, May 18, against the Clinton LumberKings at 7:00 p.m. and all remaining home games, weather permitting. Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, the wheel will also be open every Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and reopened on non-game days in the evening from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

To celebrate the re-opening of the Ferris wheel on Wednesday, fans will be able to buy a $10 all-you-can-wide pass, which is good for unlimited rides not only on the Ferris wheel, but also on the spinning bumper cars, the Mediacom Drop-N-Twist, Space Camp, Zip Line, and the new swinging pirate ship.

Otherwise, rides on the Ferris wheel cost five amusement coupons, which can be purchased for $5. Fans can also get 25 coupons, or five rides, for $20.  Open to the whole family, guests under the age of three do not require coupons to ride, and anyone under 42” tall must be accompanied by someone at least 16 years old.

“Seeing the Ferris wheel light up again is a great reminder that summer is here and family fun is back,” said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. “We are delighted to see that the crown jewel of the Friendliest Ballpark in America is back in action.”

The wheel will be open, weather permitting, for the last two days of the River Bandits current home stand. Each game begins at 7:00 p.m. with the gates opening one hour prior. Thursday night the Mississippi River will really light up between the Ferris wheel and a Smart Toyota of Quad Cities fireworks show following the game. After Thursday, the next chance to ride will be Friday, May 27, when the Bandits begin a Memorial Day Weekend home stand.
