• Trinity Work Fitness opened its first Trinity MedXpress on Thursday, December 15, at the Hy-Vee store located at 2351 West Locust Street in Davenport. The clinic is the first of its kind in the area, not only treating a patient's symptoms, but also focusing on education and prevention with Hy-Vee's pharmacists and a registered dietitian. The MedXpress clinic is the first of its kind in the area, following a national trend set by companies such as MinuteClinic and InterFit Health to open clinics at large retail or pharmacy chains. Total investment for the clinic was less than $10,000 because of low overhead and few startup costs. MedXpress will charge a flat $45 fee per visit and accept most major insurance plans. In contrast, visits to urgent-care clinics in Iowa are billed as an emergency room visit. The clinic will specialize in the treatment of many common ailments, including ear infections, strep and sore throat, sinus infections, urinary-tract infections, and pinkeye. Patients also can access a wide variety of preventive screenings for $15 per screening. MedXpress' hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

• Beginning January 1, the City of Bettendorf will offer Request Partner, a service-request program available on-line through the city's Web page at (http://www.bettendorf.org). The new service allows residents to communicate with city staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Individuals can use the system to create service requests or express concerns that will be routed automatically to the appropriate city department. A city staff member will then answer by e-mail or telephone, communicating the status of the request or concern. The system works like other pages on the Web site; users can navigate by clicking on links and buttons to inquire about a service or information. The Request Partner icon can be found on the city's main page. Residents who do not have access to a computer can continue to call city departments directly with their requests.
