BANDITS EDGE BEES IN EXTRAS

Quad Cities ties it in the 8th, wins in the 11th

BURLINGTON, Iowa – The River Bandits won their second straight against Burlington, 4-3, in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon at Community Field. Kevin Hill notched his second win of the season in relief. Chuckie Robinson belted his eighth home run of the year.

A pitching duel early, the Bandits (7-4, 44-35) broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth when Robinson left the yard on a two-run shot off Jose Suarez. Cionel Perez rolled through 5.2 innings of shutout ball for Quad Cities, but with two outs in the sixth, John Schuknecht unloaded a three-run go-ahead home run for the Bees. In the eighth, the Bandits evened the score when Carmen Benedetti singled to right to score Daz Cameron.

Quad Cities pushed ahead in the 11th off Ty Barkell. Ronnie Dawson walked to start the frame. On an apparent pitch out, Wander Franco hooked a single down the right field line, sending Dawson to third. The next batter walked to load the bases with one out for Rojas. Rojas’ sacrifice fly proved to be the game-winning RBI.

Erasmo Pinales worked around two singles in the bottom of the 11th to earn the save, striking out Sam McDonnell to end the game. The save was Pinales’ fifth on the year. Both starters - Perez and Suarez - settled for no-decisions. After four innings of no-hit relief, Hill (2-1) has now held opponents scoreless in his last 11.2 innings, spanning four appearances. Ty Barkell took the loss. Barkell (1-3) went two innings, allowing the game-winning run on the Rojas sacrifice fly.

With runners at first and second and one out in the bottom of the fourth, Jordan Zimmerman hit a grounder in the hole at shortstop. DOUBLE-DECKER CAROUSEL DEBUTS AT MODERN WOODMEN PARK
Carousel will open to the public for Red, White and Boom on July 3rd
DAVENPORT, IOWA – The latest attraction at Modern Woodmen Park is open for business. The Grand Opening of the double-decker carousel, the only one of its kind between Chicago and Kansas City, took place Friday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park.  River Bandits owners Dave Heller and Roby Smith were joined by Davenport Mayor Frank Klipsch, Tara Barney, the President and CEO of the Quad Cities Chamber, Richard Bittner, the Trustee of the Bechtel Trusts, and Quad-City Times columnist Bill Wundram for the maiden voyage of the refurbished carousel. The ride will be open to the public on July 3rd for Red, White & Boom as well as when the River Bandits begin a seven-game homestand on Tuesday, July 4th, and each home game thereafter.
The carousel, which was manufactured in Italy by Bertazzon, is a classic Venetian carousel and was purchased from San Francisco’s Pier 39. It has been lovingly restored, refurbished and beautified by the River Bandits. The carousel was purchased by the newly created Carousel Corporation; a non-profit designed to donate 100% of the proceeds from the carousel back to the Quad Cities community, specifically to help underprivileged youth.
“This is a tremendous day for Modern Woodmen Park, the River Bandits and the Quad Cities,” said Heller. “This ballpark is already the best in Minor League Baseball, and now we’ve gone even further to become the best place for family fun in the entire region. This great carousel, the only one of its kind in the region, together with all the great entertainment at Modern Woodmen Park, will attract people from all over the Midwest and make downtown Davenport and the Quad Cities even more of a great destination."
The double-decker carousel features 34 horses and sea creatures in addition to two spinning tea cups, benches, and a chariot and provides thrills to children of all ages. It is also ADA-accessible. The carousel is the fourth new attraction to open at Modern Woodmen Park in 2017, joining the “Wind Up,” the “Double Play,” and a motorized kiddie train to provide fun to the team’s youngest fans. Profits from all four rides will be distributed to help underprivileged children throughout the Quad Cities. This year, the team also unveiled the new Genesis Kidz Koaster, of which the first $50,000 in profits will be distributed to another great Quad Cities charity, the Genesis Family Connects program.
“This is another great addition to downtown Davenport. It’s really a destination point for the city. Not only do kids want to come for the baseball, they want to stay the whole night,” said Mayor Klipsch. “As a father and grandfather of ten kids, my kids and grandkids say, ‘come on, let’s go. Take us to a game, grandpa.’ Families come here not just for baseball, but for a family event, so we’re excited to have this here. There have been so many great additions to Modern Woodmen Park, and that’s why this is the number one ballpark in America."
The first chance for the public to ride the new double-decker carousel will be Red, White and Boom on Monday, July 3rd. On that day, the ballpark will be open for free to all fans and will offer unique views of the biggest fireworks show in the region. The carousel will also be open Tuesday, July 4th, when the Bandits kick off a seven-game homestand at 6:35 p.m. CT against the Kane County Cougars. Gates will open at 5:35 with the team wearing special patriotic jerseys, which will be auctioned off during the game with proceeds benefiting March of Dimes. Great seats are still available by calling (563) 324-3000, visiting riverbandits.com or at the box office at Modern Woodmen Park.
