Loons win sets up rubber match Monday

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits fell to the Great Lakes Loons 6-3 on Sunday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Ronnie Dawson collected two hits in the loss. Dustin May earned the win on the mound.

The Loons (12-18, 48-51) capitalized on a misjudged fly ball by Bandits (20-10, 57-41) shortstop Kristian Trompiz in the fourth. Carlos Rincon led off the inning with a fly ball that was lost in the sun by the shortstop, allowing Rincon to reach second. Rincon scored on an RBI single by Carlos Santana. A two-out RBI single by Oneil Cruz in the sixth made it 2-0 Loons. The Bandits tied the score in the sixth. An RBI single by Josh Rojas made it 2-1, then Troy Sieber’s RBI double evened the score. The Loons responded with four runs in the seventh inning. Yohan Ramirez hit the first batter of the inning and walked the next. Back-to-back RBI singles from Zach Reks and Steve Berman followed. Gavin Lux completed the four-run rally with a two-run single, extending the lead to 6-2 Loons. Ronnie Dawson singled home a run for the Bandits in the ninth.

May (6-5) endured 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out six and walking two. Angel German relieved May in the seventh, recording the final seven outs without allowing a run. Yohan Ramirez took the loss in relief. Ramirez (2-3) allowed all four runs in the decisive rally. Carlos Sanabria started for the Bandits and took a no-decision despite allowing only one unearned run over five innings.

The finale of the three-game series is Monday afternoon at 1:15 at Modern Woodmen Park. Bandits RHP Ronel Blanco (4-3, 3.54) opposes Loons RHP Leo Crawford (5-8, 4.56). Jake Levy and Connor Onion have pregame coverage beginning at 1:00 p.m. on riverbandits.com and 1170 AM KBOB.

BANDITS’ FIVE-RUN SEVENTH POWERS WIN

Robinson drives in three runs in 6-5 triumph

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits defeated the Great Lakes Loons 6-5 on Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park in front of 4,851 fans. Cesar Rosado earned the win out of relief. Chuckie Robinson collected two hits and three runs driven in.

The Loons (11-18, 47-51) struck first with a two-run homer from Cody Thomas in the first inning, Thomas’ 15th of the year. The Bandits (20-9, 57-40) responded with a first inning run on an RBI single from Robinson who extended his on-base streak to 23 games. The Loons took a 3-1 lead in the sixth on Mitchell Hanson’s RBI double. Quad Cities bounced back and hung a five spot on the board in the seventh. Chas McCormick singled home the first run of the inning. With Quad Cities still chasing a run, Robinson singled up the middle to give the Bandits their first lead, 4-3. Daz Cameron’s RBI single made it 5-3, then Robinson extended the lead to three by scoring on a wild pitch. Great Lakes climbed to within a run in the 8th. Brandon Montgomery hit an RBI double. Montgomery scored to make it a one-run game when Bandits second baseman Marcos Almonte committed an error on a ground ball hit by Zach Reks.

Cristian Javier pitched five innings in his Bandits debut, taking no decision. Javier allowed two runs on six hits while striking out five. Rosado (3-1) pitched 2.2 innings, allowing three runs – two earned – on three hits, striking out six. Salvador Montano nailed down the save by recording the final four outs, stranding the potential tying run at second in the ninth. Jeremiah Muhammad took the loss for the Loons. Muhammad (0-1) allowed four runs – three earned – on three hits.

BANDITS CRUSH LUGNUTS TO TAKE SERIES

14 runs outburst spurs 11-run win

DAVENPORT, Iowa – After nearly a two-hour delay to start the night, the River Bandits took the series from the Lansing Lugnuts with a 14-3 win on Friday at Modern Woodmen Park in front of 5,387 fans. Patrick Sandoval earned his first win as a River Bandit. Daz Cameron and Chuckie Robinson homered in the win for Quad Cities.

The Bandits (19-9, 56-40) scored in each of the first seven innings to runaway from the Lugnuts (47-47, 10-18). Cameron’s three-run homer, his 11th of the season, capped the four-run first inning.  Carmen Benedetti doubled home a run in the second. Chas McCormick walked with the bases loaded in the third for his first Bandits RBI. Luis Silva plated a run on a fielder’s choice for the Lugnuts in the fourth. Josh Rojas’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the innings made it 7-1. After the Bandits plated another run on Ronnie Dawson’s RBI single in the fifth, Robinson cracked a three-run homer to crack the game wide open, 11-1. The Lugnuts received an RBI double from Mitch Nay in the sixth, but the Bandits hit back with two in the bottom of the inning and another in the seventh to lead 14-2. Lansing scored their third run on a bases loaded walk in the 8th. 

Sandoval (1-1) went 5.1 innings, allowed two runs on four hits, striking out five and walking two. Robert Corniel allowed one run in 2.1 innings. Dustin Hunt recorded the final four outs out of the pen. Osman Gutierrez took the loss for Lansing. Gutierrez (2-8) allowed six runs on six hits over three innings.
