Quad Cities downs Bowling Green Tuesday with seven runs on 13 hits
BOWLING GREEN, Ken. -- The Quad Cities River Bandits responded with 13 hits - six of which were doubles - and seven runs Tuesday night to beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 7-2, to even the three-game series on a warm night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Five Bandits had multiple hits including three knocks from both Ronnie Dawson and Chuckie Robinson. Randy Cesar drove in a pair of runs with two singles, extending his hitting streak to six games.
The Bandits (16-14) scored in the first inning to grab the lead. Rodrigo Ayarza doubled and then scored on a Cesar single. Then Dawson doubled in the second and scored on a two-out error to double the lead. Bowling Green (14-16) responded with a run in the third, but the Bandits kept the pressure on with single runs in the fourth and sixth before three runs in the ninth broke the game open.
Carson LaRue (3-1) pitched four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win, scattering four hits and a walk while striking one out. JD Busfield (3-1) allowed multiple earned runs for the first time this year, allowing three runs - two earned - in five innings to suffer his first loss of the year. Bandits pitching held the Hot Rods to 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position, stranding 12 runners on; including two bases loaded opportunities.
Alex De Goti was kept off base for the first time in 22 games, getting a fifth chance to bat in the ninth inning thanks to the three-run rally, but flew out to the warning track. Dustin Hunt allowed two runs on five hits while striking out five in his start for Quad Cities.
Quad Cities hasn't dropped a season series to Bowling Green since 2013 and have a chance to extend the streak in Wednesday's rubber match at a special 10:35 a.m. start time. LHP Cionel Perez (1-1, 7.56) gets his third start for the River Bandits, facing off against LHP Brock Burke (3-0, 1.04) for the Hot Rods.
