Bandits clinch post-season with 5-2 win over Snappers Thursday

BELOIT, Wisc. -- The Quad Cities River Bandits punched their ticket to the 2017 Midwest League playoffs with a 5-2 win over the Beloit Snappers on a chilly Thursday night at Pohlman Field. Chaz McCormick had three hits and an RBI to lead the way while Robert Corniel earned the playoff-clinching win with three scoreless innings of relief.
The Bandits (39-21, 76-52) broke open the scoring with two unearned runs in the third. A Josh Rojas single trickled past the Beloit (28-31, 60-67) left fielder to allow two runs to score. Then Ray Henderson singled home a run in the fourth to add to the lead. Daz Cameron then doubled home an insurance run in the seventh before the Snappers plated two runs in the home seventh with four walks and a sacrifice fly. McCormick got a run back with his double in the eighth to round out the scoring.
Corniel (1-0) went three innings, allowing just two walks in hitless and scoreless innings. Seth Martinez (4-9) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over six innings.
The Bandits magic number to win the Western Division is two. They have a chance to get closer to the division title Friday night when Nathan Thompson gets the start for the Bandits in a Fireworks Friday. First pitch is set for 6:35 and gates open one hour prior at Modern Woodmen Park.
