ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (October 25, 2023) — Nineteen Augustana College students recently completed SCUBA certification, with many planning to put their new skills to work during a Janaury Geology course in the Caribbean, diving in the topical waters and reefs of Bonaire.

Susan Wolf, Augustana's educational programs coordinator, said students trained for weeks and challenged themselves in completing the SCUBA training.

"They descended to depths of forty feet while demonstrating specific skills, faced fears, and braced against the dark, frigid waters of Haigh Quarry in Kankakee, Illinois," said Wolf.

She added many of the recently-certified students will put their new skills to work during a January course, "Geology of the Caribbean." These students will dive in the topical waters and reefs of Bonaire, an island municipality of the Netherlands.

Recently certified students included:

Georgi Feigley, a Augie Ages Undecided major of Rock Island (61201)

Niah Tyler, a Geology and Environmental Studies major of Silvis (61282)
