Over the next decade, millions of jobs will need to be filled in new and growing industries. In order to prepare Iowans to be successful in these industries, we must eliminate the skills gap that exists between our nation’s workforce and the demands of emerging fields. By providing future job seekers with the skills and training they need to be competitive in the 21st Century economy, we can remove this significant barrier to success and connect those looking for jobs with those creating them. This week, I was proud to reintroduce my legislation, the New Jobs Training Act, to help close this skills gap and connect hardworking Iowans to good, high-paying jobs. Specifically, the New Jobs Training Act would create a grant program that helps community colleges partner with local businesses to provide the training needed to ensure that Iowa’s workforce has the skills needed for today’s economy. We have too many highly capable and eager Iowans who are in of need work, and the New Jobs Training Act will help get these folks one step closer to finding a good job in one of these fast growing, high-paying fields. I was proud to reintroduce this legislation, and will continue to support innovative approaches that help connect hardworking Iowans to good-paying jobs.
