DAVENPORT, Iowa, January 14, 2017 – The community is invited to join the Metropolitan Community Church of the Quad Cities as they welcome Dr. Lisa Killinger who will be speaking on the topic of “Practicing Patience”.
Dr. Killinger will speak during the 11:00 am service at MCCQC located at 2930 W. Locust Street, Davenport, across from the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds.
According to Rev. Rich Hendricks, pastor of MCC QC, “Many members of the community were blessed by Dr. Killinger’s moving message during the Candlelight Vigil for Orlando held at MCC last year. She is past President of the Islamic Center in Bettendorf and an outstanding human being. We are honored to have her return at a time when having patience with one another and learning from folks with other traditions is integral to strengthening dialogue”.
Lisa Killinger, D.C., Davenport ’83, is a professor of Diagnosis and Radiology at Palmer College of Chiropractic. She has directed or co-directed eight governmental grants on the topic of geriatric education and interdisciplinary health care, and served as a site coordinator for the HRSA-funded Iowa Geriatric Education Center for more than 10 years. Dr. Killinger teaches Geriatrics, Male and Female Health, Case Study Writing, and Chiropractic Technique courses for students, educators and health professionals. She has received dozens of awards for her teaching and research over the past two decades. Her professional achievements are impressive, but when asked to reflect on her achievements, Dr. Killinger says her “most important accomplishment has been raising four children, two of whom are chiropractors”. Her compassion is one of her most remarkable characteristics. Consider her advice to students. “Help your patients be well. Give each patient the care you would want your family to receive.” “Remember it takes years to earn the trust of your patients, their family, and the community, but only moments to destroy it. Be an ethical doctor.” “Volunteer. Give. Go forth and serve.” (People of Palmer website)
In preparation for her message, Dr. Killinger asks those attending to consider these questions: "What makes YOU impatient?" "What examples do we have of patience in our scriptures?" "What good could come of becoming more patient?" The doors will be open at 9:30 for fellowship including coffee, hot chocolate and cookies prior to and following the service.
