Franco Wicks, a young black man and Arthur’s only employee, wants to modernize the shop full circle. This provocative show, set in the skin of a drama with high comedic moments, explores the human experience of embracing the past, exposing our weakest moments, keeping a damn-fine sense of humor about it all, and finding redemption in the least expected relationships. Superior Donuts is a smart, strongly written Tony-nominated play by Tracy Letts, author of “August: Osage County.” And there’s donuts! The cast features Amadou Sanogo (Franco), Rip Russell (Arthur), Duane Larson (Max), Kristin Hamilton (Randy), Jeremy Mims (James), Trent Yoder (Luther), Grant Blades (Kevin), BJ Moeller (Lady) and Derek Johnson (Kiril). “Superior Donuts is an extremely smart show that packs in compelling issues related to race, hope, and the transformative power of connection and redemption,” says director, Barry A. Schreier, “it is no wonder why Superior Donuts played Broadway, garnered a Tony-Award nomination, and is now a hit television show.”
