DES MOINES, IOWA (January 15, 2024) — On Saturday, January 14, Governor Kim Reynolds issued the following statement on the death of Dan Marburger, principal of Perry High School:

“Our entire state is devastated by the news of Dan Marburger’s death. Kevin and I offer our deepest condolences to his wife and family as we pray for their comfort during this very difficult time. Dan courageously put himself in harm’s way to protect his students, and ultimately gave his own life to save them. He will forever be remembered for his selfless and heroic actions. May he rest in peace.”

Gov Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, January 14, 2024, and remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of Mr Marburger’s funeral and internment.

Flags will be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state.

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties, and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
