Featuring local history teacher Heather Monson

MOLINE, ILLINOIS (June 21, 2019) — WQPT invites you to tune in to the Golden Apple Awards 2019 for Excellence in Teaching & Leadership on June 29 at 3:30PM honoring 10 extraordinary teachers from the State of Illinois. This is the first year that the awards will feature award-winners from all over the state including United Township history teacher, Heather Monson.

The ceremony took place on May 18 in Chicago, Illinois at the WTTW studios. “WQPT was honored to tape the local segment featuring Ms Monson,” said WQPT producer Lora Adams.

Ms. Monson was selected from 550 nominations from 71 counties in Illinois for the 2019 awards, the first year that teachers outside of Chicago were able to be nominated. The awards have been existence since 1986.

The program aired on WTTW in Chicago at the end of May.

WQPT is a public media service of Western Illinois University.
