BOWLING GREEN, Ken. -- Six runs over the first three innings buried the Quad Cities River Bandits in a 10-2 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods on a warm, humid Wednesday at Bowling Green Ballpark. Cionel Perez could not get through the second inning, allowing six runs on seven hits, to suffer his second loss of the season. Randy Cesar had a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to seven games and Spencer Johnson had two hits and the lone RBI for the Quad Cities offense in the game.
Quad Cities (16-15) dropped the season series to Bowling Green (15-16) for the first time since the 2013 season. After four hits led to three first-inning runs for the Hot Rods, Quad Cities answered with back-to-back hits to start the second. Stephen Wrenn doubled and scored on a Johnson single, but any momentum was quickly squandered by three more Bowling Green runs in the second inning. Perez (1-2) allowed all six runs on seven hits in 1.2 innings.
Outside of the Johnson single, only one more unearned run scored off Bowling Green starter Brock Burke (4-0) in 5.1 innings. He allowed two runs - one earned - on six hits and two walks while striking out three. The bullpen combination of Dalton Moats and Elias Torres  shut down the Bandits offense the rest of the way. Salvador Montano pitched three innings for Quad Cities, allowing three unearned runs when an error kept the sixth inning alive then, after Montano was pulled from the game, a home run allowed the runners to score.
The River Bandits are now 4-5 against the Eastern Division this half and will look to get back to even water when they head north to face the Dayton Dragons for a three-game series at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark, beginning Thursday at 6:00 p.m. CT. RHP  Forrest Whitley (1-1, 3.60) gets the start for Quad Cities against LHP Max Wotell making his first start of the year for Dayton. The River Bandits On-Deck Show, powered by Hampton Inn and Suites Davenport, will begin at 5:45 with Jake Levy on 1170 AM K-BOB, riverbandits.com and the TuneIn app.
