DES MOINES, IOWA (March 20, 2020) — The Iowa Restaurant Association has been working with the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Iowa Department of Revenue. Because of pressing deadlines, they have given us permission to share the following information with members of Iowa’s hospitality industry.

They are creating a financial relief grant program for hospitality operators. The plan is to have the application online on Monday.

The grant program will provide immediate relief for restaurants and bars in Iowa.

  1. The application will be online and we will provide a link as soon as it is available.
  2. The review and approvals will be handled as they are received and notifications made quickly.
  3. Distribution amounts will vary based on your business model and size.

When you are applying for assistance for your business, there will be a specific box to check that will allow for the deferral of Iowa payroll with-holding tax and sales tax. This is being granted as a hardship waiver.

If your payments are due today and you’ve not yet submitted payment, the Association is recommending you do not submit. The waiver will be retroactive to payments due today, 3/20/2020. However, when the link is available you must go online and apply for the deferral.

This deferral will have no penalty or interest. At this time, the taxes have been deferred only.

Unfortunately, for those who have paid already there is not currently the ability to request a refund. However, you should still go online and apply for relief assistance.

The Iowa Restaurant Association will be holding an industry call today at 3PM. We will be sending call-in information shortly.
