BURLINGTON, Iowa - Alex De Goti collected four hits, including two homeruns, to lead the Quad Cities River Bandits to a 15-1 win over the Burlington Bees Monday night at Community Field. Three Bandits finished one hit shy of the cycle, including De Goti, as Quad Cities notched their largest margin of victory of the year. Bandits’ starter Jorge Alcala picked up the win, tossing five scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.
The scoring started in the second for the Bandits (5-6) on a Rodrigo Ayarza sacrifice fly, followed by a Ronnie Dawson two-run scoring triple. Dawson scored when Daz Cameron reached on an error on the ensuing at-bat. The Bandits started the third with back-to-back home runs by De Goti and Jake Rogers. Rogers came to bat the following inning and bashed a run scoring double. In the seventh, Ayarza clubbed a two-run shot giving him his third home run in two games. Finally, De Goti’s second home run of the night made it 10-1 and a Spencer Johnson double provided another run. Randy Cesar provided the final insurance runs on a ninth inning grand slam.
Dawson was a home run short of the cycle and Rogers was a triple away. De Goti added to his two home runs with a triple and a single and was a double shy of the cycle from the fourth inning on, but could instead had to settle for two walks and his second homer of the night. Quad Cities pounded out 16 hits and every Bandit in the lineup reached base. Eight of the nine at least one knock.
Nate Bertness (0-1) received the loss after allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits and two home runs for Burlington (5-5). Erik Manoah threw four innings in relief, yielding three runs, one of them earned. Mike Kaelin finished the final two innings, surrendering six more Bandits runs.
Alcala (1-0) received his first win. Enoli Parades made his debut for Quad Cities hurling three innings out of the pen, allowing just one run. Abdiel Saldana faced the minimum in the ninth to shut the door.
The same two teams are back in action tomorrow at Community Field. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. RHP Hector Perez (0-1, 2.25) is scheduled to start for the River Bandits, while RHP Andrew Vinson (1-0, 1.80) takes the ball for Burlington.
