DAVENPORT, IOWA (April  30, 2019) — The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) recognized leaders in nutrition and physical activity at the 2019 Iowa Governor’s Conference on Public Health in Des Moines. Christina McDonough, Community Transformation Consultant for the Scott County Health Department, received the Established Nutrition and Physical Activity Leader award.

The honorees emulate the IDPH Bureau of Nutrition and Health Promotion vision of “an Iowa where healthy living is accessible, valued, and supported by all.” The winners must strive to make the Bureau’s mission a reality by “ensuring that Iowans have the opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle by providing education and resources, building partnerships, and supporting communities.”

“I’m proud to work for a nationally-accredited public-health department and that my work to support healthy choices is being recognized at the state level,” said McDonough. “I’ve worked with a lot of outstanding public health-professionals in the Quad Cities and across Iowa to promote health and wellness.”

McDonough focuses on workplaces, communities, and supportive community-coalitions, helping to ensure Scott County receives education and support to make systems-level and environmental changes to improve the health of the community. She actively improves the nutrition environment by working with area businesses and restaurants to complete the CHANGE tool, as well as conducting vending and restaurant assessments. She also serves on the boards of the Food Rescue Partnership, the Quad Cities HEARTSafe Coalition, and Bi-State Regional Trails Committee. In the past year, Christina was able to create a Scott County Walk Audit Toolkit utilizing elements of the evidence-based Walking and Bicycling Suitability Assessment and best-practice AARP Walk Audit Toolkit. She is committed to making Scott County a better place to live.
