Quad Cities erases a five-run deficit in 10-9 win

GENEVA, Illinois – Despite trailing 9-4 in the sixth inning, the River Bandits came back to beat the Kane County Cougars 10-9 on Sunday afternoon at Northwestern Medicine Field. Ronnie Dawson ripped a three-run homer as part of a two-hit day. Abraham Toro-Hernandez recorded his third home run in his fourth game as a Bandit.

The Bandits (22-14, 59-45) scored three times in the first inning. Dawson tripled to lead off the game and scored on Robinson’s RBI single. Toro-Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly and Kristian Trompiz singled home a run to make it 3-0 Bandits. Ramon Hernandez laced an RBI single to get the Cougars (17-18, 56-46) on the board in the first. Kane County took the lead in the fourth. Back-to-back walks then an error by Toro-Hernandez at third plated the first run of the inning. Hernandez ripped a three-RBI double, swinging the score to 5-3 Cougars. Toro-Hernandez hit a solo homer in the third, slicing the lead to 5-4. Luis Silverio collected a two-run double in the fifth and Anfernee Grier followed with a two-run single to make it 9-4 Cougars. Dawson’s three-run homer and a Toro-Hernandez RBI single in the sixth got the Bandits back with one run at 9-8. Robinson tied the game in the 8th with an RBI single. Quad Cities took the lead on Chas McCormick’s sacrifice fly.

Salvador Montano entered the game with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh and struck out Hernandez to keep the game within reach for the Bandits. Montano (4-2) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and induced a 1-4-3 double play for the final outs of the game. Anfernee Benitez took the loss for Kane County out of the bullpen. Benitez (0-1) pitched an inning and allowed two runs.

COUGARS WALK BY BANDITS IN GAME ONE

Bandits issue six walks, lose 7-4

GENEVA, Illinois – The River Bandits lost to the Kane County Cougars, 7-4, on Saturday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.  Ronnie Dawson collected three hits and an RBI in the loss. Tyler Badamo earned his first win for the Cougars.

The Bandits (21-14, 58-45) scored a first inning run on a sacrifice fly by Josh Rojas. In the second, the Cougars (17-18, 56-46) plated four runs. An infield single and two walks loaded the bases for Luis Silverio. Bandits’ starter Yohan Ramirez walked Silverio, tying the score at 1-1. With Anfernee Grier at the plate, Ramirez threw a wild pitch, scoring Stephen Smith. Grier followed with a two-run single to complete the four-run rally. Kristian Trompiz plated a run with a single to cut the Cougars lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the inning, Carlos Sanabria walked the lead off man. With two outs and the runner on second, Sanabria induced a ground ball to first, covered the bag, but dropped the ball. With runners at first and third, Sanabria threw a wild pitch to score Smith from third. Grier followed with an RBI single to make it 6-2 Cougars. In the seventh Ramon Hernandez’s homer extended the lead to 7-2 Kane County. The Bandits scored twice in the ninth. Dawson double home a run then scored on back-to-back wild pitches.

Badamo (1-0) pitched seven innings, allowed two runs, ten hits, stuck out three and walked none. Junior Garcia pitched a scoreless 8th inning for the Cougars. Jake Winston allowed two runs in the ninth. Ramirez (2-4) lasted 1.2 innings for the Bandits, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out two and walking three. Sanabria pitched 5.1 innings in relief, yielding three runs – one earned  – on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

 

BANDITS LOSE IN TEN INNINGS TO LUMBERKINGS

Yojhan Quevedo’s walk-off single downs Quad Cities

CLINTON, Iowa – The River Bandits fell to the LumberKings 6-5 in ten innings on Friday night at Ashford University Field. Abraham Toro-Hernandez drilled his second home run in as many games for the Bandits. Yojhan Quevedo provided a walk-off single in the tenth for Clinton.

The Bandits (21-13, 58-44) cracked the scoring column in the first inning when Chuckie Robinson doubled to score Ronnie Dawson. Leading 1-0, Quad Cities loaded the bases with one out, but stranded them loaded. In the bottom of the first Clinton (14-20, 45-56) scored twice to take a 2-1 advantage.  Nick Zammerelli’s RBI single tied the score. Bandits’ starter Cristian Javier walked Dimas Ojeda with the bases loaded to give Clinton the lead. In the second, Osvaldo Duarte walked, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, then scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at two. Gareth Morgan blasted a two-run homer in the third to push Clinton back in front. Quad Cities notched three runs in the fifth. Daz Cameron’s RBI groundout pulled the Bandits to within a run. Toro-Hernandez’s two-run homer gave the Bandits their first lead since the first. In the bottom of the fifth, Jhombeyker Morales recorded a sacrifice fly leveling the score at five. The game remained scoreless until the tenth, when Quevedo delivered the walk-off blow with two outs and the bases loaded.

Devon Carr pitched the decisive inning for Quad Cities. Carr (0-1) snapped a string of five consecutive scoreless outings by allowing the game-winner. Cristian Javier lasted just two innings in his start for the Bandits, allowing two runs on three hits, while walking four. Dustin Hunt allowed three runs out of the Bandits pen over four innings. Jesus Balaguer threw three scoreless innings, striking out six in his Bandits debut. Seth Elledge earned the win for the LumberKings. Elledge (1-0) tossed two scoreless frames and struck out five of the six batters he retired.
