Cameron’s second straight three-hit night propels 9-3 win

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits defeated the Clinton LumberKings, 9-3, on Sunday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Daz Cameron went 3-for-5, hitting his ninth homer and driving in four runs. Gabriel Valdez earned the win, striking out a career-high eight batters.

The Bandits (13-5, 50-36) made it 2-0 in the first on an RBI triple from Chuckie Robinson and an RBI infield single from Wander Franco. LumberKings’ (6-12, 37-48) third baseman Joe Rizzo hit his second home run of the series, a solo shot, to make it 2-1 in the second. In the bottom half, the Bandits went back-to-back with Cameron hitting a two-run homer followed by Carmen Benedetti’s solo shot. An RBI single from Marcos Almonte and a two-run single from Cameron extended the lead to 8-1 in the third. Dimas Ojeda left the yard for his first homer of the year in the top of the fifth, cutting the lead to 8-2. Troy Sieber’s homer in the bottom of the inning got the run back, pushing the lead to seven for Quad Cities. Gareth Morgan doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the seventh, decreasing the Bandits lead to 9-3.

Valdez (3-0) went six innings, allowed two runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking none. Robert Corniel made his Bandits debut, tossing three innings, allowing one run to earn the save. Lane Ratliff took the loss for the LumberKings. Ratliff (1-2) lasted 2.2 innings, allowing eight runs – five earned – on ten hits.

The finale of the four game series is Monday night at 6:35 p.m. Monday is YMCA Night with Brews and Brats Monday & Christmas in July. All premium brews and brats are $3.

Late comeback falls short in Bandits’ 7-5 loss

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits lost 7-5 to the Clinton LumberKings on Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park in front of 5,938 fans. Danny Garcia earned the win for the LumberKings, while Billy Cooke and Joe Rizzo homered in the win for Clinton.  

The LumberKings (6-11, 37-47) scored twice in the first. Rizzo singled home the first run. The second run scored on a 3-6 double play that ended the inning with Yojhan Quevedo scoring before the tag was applied at second base to complete the twin killing. Cesar Rosado walked in a run in the second and surrendered a sacrifice fly to Bryson Brigman, extending the lead to 4-0 Clinton after two innings. Cooke’s two-run homer in the sixth and Rizzo’s solo shot in the seventh widened the lead to 7-0. Troy Sieber’s sacrifice fly in the seventh put the Bandits (12-5, 49-36) on the board. The Bandits scored four times in the fourth. Chuckie Robinson stroked a double to right-center to plate Carmen Benedetti.  An RBI single from Daz Cameron cut the lead to 7-3. With runners at first and third, Cameron took second on a wild pitch. On the throw down, Ronnie Dawson took home and Cameron moved to third. Cameron scored on a wild pitch, cutting the lead to 7-5. The Bandits brought the potential go-ahead run to the plate in the inning, but Ray Henderson struck out to retire the side.

Rosado (1-1) took the loss for the Bandits. After walking six batters, the right-hander exited with two outs in the fourth, allowing four runs on three hits, striking out none. Dustin Hunt tossed 4.1 innings in relief, allowing three runs, but striking out a career-high eight batters. Garcia (6-5) tossed six innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out seven and walking two.

BANDITS BEAT CLINTON TO WIN 7TH STRAIGHT

Dawson’s two homers pace Bandits to 6-2 win

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits defeated the Clinton LumberKings, 6-2, on Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park in front of 5,422 fans. Abdiel Saldana earned the win. Ronnie Dawson collected his ninth and tenth homers of the year.  

The River Bandits (12-4, 49-35) scored in each of the first three innings to jump out to a 3-0 lead over the LumberKings (5-11, 36-47). Clinton looked to turn a 4-6-1 double play to end the first, but pitcher Ljay Newsome dropped the ball, allowing Carmen Benedetti to score from third. Josh Rojas’ RBI single in the second made it 2-0 Bandits. Dawson ripped homers in the third and sixth to expand Quad Cities’ lead to 4-0. Jhombeyker Morales singled home a run in the 7th for Clinton, cutting the lead to 4-1. The Bandits halted Clinton’s mini-rally with a two-RBI single by Troy Sieber in the seventh. Morales grounded out to shortstop to score a run in the Clinton ninth.

Saldana (5-1) picked up a win in his fourth straight appearance. The right-hander tossed five innings of shut out ball, allowing three hits and striking out six. Cionel Perez tossed four innings in his tandem relief appearance, surrendering two runs on four hits to earn his second save. Newsome (4-8) took the loss, allowing three runs over three innings.
