Blanco’s strong outing not enough in 2-1 defeat

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits fell to the Great Lakes Loons 2-1 on Monday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park. Josh Rojas delivered the only RBI for the Bandits with a single in the first. Leo Crawford earned the win on the mound for the Loons.

The Loons (13-18, 49-51) scored a first inning run without recording a hit. With one out, back-to-back batters walked against Ronel Blanco. On a double steal, Bandits (20-11, 57-42) catcher Ray Henderson sent an errant throw to left field, scoring Gavin Lux. The Bandits bounced back in the bottom of the inning to tie the score 1-1 on Rojas’ RBI single. In the second, the Loons took the lead for good on Zach Reks’ RBI double.

Crawford (6-8) twirled a career-high eight innings and allowed a first inning run, but nothing more. The lefty allowed four hits and struck out six. Andre Scrubb pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his first save. (Blanco (4-3) tossed six innings, allowed one earned run, three hits and struck out a career-high nine batters, but took the loss. Lucas Williams pitched three scoreless innings of relief.

The Bandits have an off day Tuesday before heading to Clinton to start a seven-game road trip on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Jake Levy and Connor Onion have pregame coverage beginning at 6:15 p.m. on riverbandits.com and 1170 AM KBOB.
