Persistent Timber Rattlers take three separate leads to avoid sweep
APPLETON, Wisc. - The Quad Cities River Bandits fell to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 8-3, Thursday night at Fox Cities Stadium. The Bandits were denied their third series sweep of the season and had a three-game win streak snapped with the loss. Jonathan Arauz had his first RBI of the year with a pair of hits in the loss while Daz Cameron and Marcos Almonte also drove in runs for Quad Cities.
The Bandits (30-28) twice came back from early deficits before the Timber Rattlers (35-32) took the lead for good in the fourth inning. After a Ronnie Gideon homer opened up the scoring in the second, the Bandits answered with an RBI-triple from Arauz to tie the game, then he scored on Cameron's double the very next pitch to take the lead. Wisconsin had a two-out rally on the home side to regain the lead, starting with a solo homer from Monte Harrison to tie the game before a walk, wild pitch and single plus error brought home the second go-ahead run of the night for Wisconsin. The Bandits tied it again on a two-out single by Almonte, one of his two singles on the night. But Wisconsin again had the answer in the home half, scoring on an RBI single by Joantgel Segovia.
That was the end of the night for Bandits starter Dustin Hunt (L, 0-5) who took the loss for four innings in which he allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits - including two home runs - and two walks while striking out one. Kevin Hill took over in the fifth and allowed three runs on four hits in his maiden inning to allow Wisconsin to break the game open.
The sixth inning featured a 56-minuite rain delay, but the damage was already done. Wisconsin tacked on an unearned insurance run in the seventh to round out the scoring.
The Bandits are two games out of a playoff spot with ten games left in the first half of the season. They begin a crucial four-game set with the Beloit Snappers Friday at Pohlman Field. RHP Gabriel Valdez (0-0, 3.60) gets the ball for Quad Cities against  RHP Matt Milburn (2-4, 5.55) for the Snappers.
