ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (April 29, 2020) — Augustana's location in the Quad Cities has always been important. And, now more than ever, the college can play a pivotal role for local students as they look at their college options.

In the wake of COVID-19, the lure of traveling across the state, the country, and world to attend colleges and universities has changed. Students considering staying close to home should consider the top 100 liberal-arts college right here in the Quad Cities.

Augustana’s $2,000 Quad City Promise Scholarship is for up to 50 local high-school graduates and transfer-students who apply between May 1 and August 31 and are admitted to Augustana College.

W Kent Barnds, Executive Vice President for External Relations, says, “I was thrilled when a few QCA residents approached us about trying to attract new applicants from our backyard over the summer. These alumni and community leaders believe in Quad Cities students and know that the best and brightest students don't need to leave the area to receive a top-notch, liberal-arts education at a top-100 National Liberal Arts College.”

This program is focused on new applicants, who might be surprised to learn that what they thought they could find only at a large university or out-of-state college can be found right here in the Quad-City area’s only nationally-ranked liberal-arts college. Students planning to live at home, as well as those planning to live on campus, are encouraged to apply.

The Quad-City Promise Scholarship of $2,000 is in addition to any other merit awards offered by the college, including the $1,000 Campus (Virtual) Visit Grant and up to $26,000 in academic merit scholarships. All of these awards are renewable up to four years. Every student also has access to Augie Choice: $2,000 to support study-abroad, research, or an internship.

We will be hosting a virtual press conference. More than ever, it’s critical that our local students understand the value of an Augustana education.

Founded in 1860, Augustana College is a selective four-year residential college of the liberal arts and sciences. Augustana is recognized for the innovative program Augie Choice, which provides each student up to $2,000 to pursue a high-impact learning experience such as study-abroad, an internship, or research with a professor. Current students and alumni include 176 Academic All-Americans, two Nobel laureates, 13 college presidents, and other distinguished leaders. The college enrolls 2,500 students and is located along one of the world’s most-important waterways, the Mississippi River, in a community that reflects the diversity of the United States.
