DUBUQUE, IOWA (November 14, 2019) — University of Dubuque’s Bisignano Art Gallery will host a reception for its latest show, “Iowa Visions,” 6-7:30PM, Saturday, November 23, in the art gallery, Heritage Center, 2255 Bennett St. The reception is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
“Iowa Visions” highlights the works of Rachel Deutmeyer and Anna Segner. The two friends attended graduate school together and collaborated on some works. They are art professors at different schools.
Alan Garfield, director of the art gallery, said the works in the gallery are almost whimsical by nature.
“Deutmeyer’s paintings are done in a manner of soft abstraction and painted in a soft wax medium known as encaustic. The effect is a soft shimmering. Segner’s toys are playful, but she is careful to remind us of the dangers of a throwaway consumer society. There’s a gaiety in their color, a motion that is in their design, and an understated happiness in their small canvasses that is very approachable,” Garfield said.
The reception will take place in conjunction with The Texas Tenors featuring the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, which will begin at 7:30PM in John and Alice Butler Hall. For more information, visit www.dbq.edu/heritagecenter.
