· This Tuesday the SubPop label releases Interlude by Saint Etienne, a 12-track CD collection of rarities. Featured are three songs culled from 1999's Sound of Water sessions, six B sides, two remixes, a cover of The Beach Boys' "Stevie," and two versions of the video for "How We Used to Live." Vinyl purists can find a limited-edition orange-wax LP available as well.
· While his days with Tin Machine are over, master guitarist Reeves Gabrels is a busy man these days, as he's about to get from behind the mixing board to launch a small U.S. tour to support his recent Ulysses CD on the E-Magine Records label. Simply smoking behind his six-string Parker Fly, the CD is a textural delight with guest vocalists David Bowie, Frank Black, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, and The Cure's Robert Smith. Currently in the studio working on Ozzy Osbourne's new album, Gabrels will be spending the summer recording Smith's long-anticipated solo album as well.
