· An odd pick for breaking new ground in the ever-shifting digital-delivery paradigm, The Barenaked Ladies have led with their James Bond chins and asked Q to reach outside the CD, DVD, MP3 phone, and Oakley's Thump eyewear. This Tuesday the band offers up Barenaked on a Stick, a collection of 29 holiday songs, demos, and live rarities exclusively as a USB flash memory drive "stick," ready to go from your cupped palm to your PC. Don't look for this high-tech release in local record stores, as it's only available through the band's Web site, Amazon.com, and alongside concert T-shirts and programs on the band's winter tour.

· Going backward in time, but forward in love, The Killers have chosen the analog path less traveled in re-releasing the Hot Fuss album next week as a box set of 11 seven-inch vinyl singles - one for each song on the album, and each with a special rare B side, such as an acoustic take on "Smile Like You Mean It" and covers of Morrissey's "Why Don't You Find Out for Yourself" and Kenny Rogers' "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town."

· Two nice career anthology box sets drop next Tuesday, perfectly timed for the gift-giving season, even if it's a present from ourselves. 4AD Records has collected every track from every international Cocteau Twins single from 1982 through 1996 and assembled them across four CDs entitled Lullabies to Violaine: Singles & Extended Plays. Highlights include mega-rare holiday covers of "Frosty the Snowman" and "Winter Wonderland," acoustic takes on "Bluebeard" and "Pink Orange Red," and an alternative version of "Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops." Another four-CD set, Billy Joel's My Lives box on the Columbia Record's Legacy imprint, leaves the hits for other collections and packs on the rarities; all selections are unreleased songs and demos such as "The Prime of Your Life" from 1981, which later morphed into "The Longest Time." Going back to his days with Atilla, The Lost Souls, and The Hassles, other tasty bits include covers of Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited" and Disney's "When You Wish Upon a Star."
