The Scott County Sheriff's Office, in support of the National Sheriff's Association is announcing the launch of the Next Generation National Neighborhood Watch program.

You may know it previously as USAonWatch.org - Neighborhood Watch Program, but they are now being rebranded as the National Neighborhood Watch - A Division of the National Sheriff's Association.
USAonWatch was started in 1972 with funding in part by the National Sheriff's Association, through a grant. The grant funding has come to an end, but the National Sheriff's Association is happy to continue with this great program.

Our nation is built on the strength of our citizens. Every day, we encounter situations calling upon us to be the eyes and ears of law enforcement. Not only does neighborhood watch allow citizens to help in the fight against crime, it is also an opportunity for communities to bond through service. The Neighborhood Watch Program draws upon the compassion of average citizens, asking them to lend their neighbors a hand.

For more information on the Next Generation National Neighborhood Watch Program please visit www.nnw.org or contact the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office was notifed yesterday afternoon of a phone scam. A Davenport resident was contacted by phone from someone claiming to be from the Sheriff's Office (although they did not specify Scott County Sheriff's Office). The suspect advised the resident there was a warrant out for her arrest and there was a $400.00 fine. She was told to go to the Dollar General or Kroger's store and get a money card and the warrant would be dismissed. The resident went to the Dollar General and attempted to get a money card and a vigilant clerk informed the resident that it sounded like a scam. The resident luckily did not loose any money.

The resident did not in fact have a warrant. Even if the resident did have a warrant, the Scott County Sheriff's Office wants residents to know that no law enforcement agency would call a person who is wanted to request a money card. All fines need to be paid at the Clerk of Court, and if you have a warrant we encourage people to surrender. This is a scare tactic hoping people won't realize the scam until they have given the suspects money.

If anyone has more information or if they have been a victim of this phone scam please contact Detective Tim Ells at 563-326-8286.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office is announcing that beginning Wednesday February 12th, 2014, we will begin posting active warrants for local law enforcement agencies and the Sheriff's Office on our website. It will be in a format similar to the Jail Inmate Listing for ease of use and will include photos if someone has previously been arrested. Several other agencies in Iowa are already posting warrants online and the County Attorney's Office has reviewed our application prior to its implementation.

The warrant section on our webpage will contain possible active warrants. The site is updated once daily and the data is subject to change. Individuals are warned not to take any action based solely on data contained in the website. Warrants must be confirmed by law enforcement personnel. If you believe you may know someone on the warrant page, please contact your local law enforcement agency. We are posting the data for information purposes only.

At anytime there are thousands of outstanding warrants in Scott County. We are posting the data in an effort to inform and engage our community and to encourage people to take care of any outstanding warrants they may have.

There will be a press conference at the Sheriff's Office Pavilion Conference Room on Tuesday February 11th, 2014, at 1000 hrs to demonstrate the webpage.
