Enjoy AJ Haut performing the songs of Johnny Cash, as well as Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley accompanied by Tristan Tapscott and Kyle Jecklin. April 13th - Zion Lutheran Church hosting Benefit for Norman Sawyer at Princeton, Iowa Fire Station Princeton. Dinner from 4:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M.. Live auction and entertainment to follow. Tickets are available at Iowa locations of the Blackhawk Bank and Trust. The cost is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for children 6 to 12 years old (5 and under free. life-long resident of Scott County, Norman has led an active farmer's life raising beef cattle. Sawyer Beef is a staple at Davenport's Farmer's Freight House Market.  The family is actively involved in Zion Lutheran Church and the community of Princeton.   Norman graduated from North Scott in 1964 and Iowa State University in 1968.  He then served in the U. S. Navy.  On April 19, 2012, Norman broke his neck in a farm accident. He was airlifted to a neuro-trauma hospital in Rockford, Illinois.  In critical condition, Norman was paralyzed, on a ventilator and unable to speak or swallow. He had three surgeries to stabilize his neck. Norman spent six months undergoing intensive rehabilitation at the Minneapolis VA Spinal Cord Injury Center.   After a year of rehabilitation and recovery, Norman is finally returning to the family farm.  However, their home requires extensive renovations to be handicapped accessible:  ramps, wheelchair lift, handicapped bathroom, ceiling lift, etc.  The purpose of the benefit is to raise funds to help defray the cost of the renovations to the Sawyer home. March 8th - Ascentra Branches - Casual for a Cause Day. Employees pay $5 to dress casually. Proceeds collected will go towards St. Bladrick's Foundation, a cause dedicated to curing childhood cancer.  Locally, the "shaving of the heads" will take place at the DeWitt Just Irish Enough Parade & St. Baldrick's Fundraiser on Saturday, March 16th. Ascentra's Casual for a Cause days are held twice a month where each staff member donates $5 to dress casual with all proceeds benefitting a local organization or family in need.  Anyone is welcome to join this effort and donate to this great cause.

March 9th - Trivia Night at the LeClaire Civic Center benefiting the LeClaire Civic Club Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with trivia starting at 7 p.m. Participants may bring beer, wine, snacks and soda. Water and snacks will also be for sale. Up to eight people per table. $10 per person with a $50 table minimum. Everyone will be entered into a drawing for door prizes. Paul and his team have been working hard for months. In mid November they uncovered an opening to a tunnel that was part of the Underground Railroad. The building is being transformed and progress is made daily. We are very excited about the opportunities in LeClaire and promise to keep you posted on the opening date. $1,000 Ascentra Credit Union Scholarship Competition is Underway; Ascentra Credit Union is encouraging the youth in our community to further their education by providing two $1,000.000 scholarships each year. Entrants must have an account established in his or her own name at Ascentra. One scholarship is for high school students planning to enter college.  The other scholarship is for members age 19 or over, considered non-traditional-aged or continuing education students.   The scholarship entrants will be judged on a 500 word essay on the topic, "With college tuition costs dramatically increasing year after year, besides scholarships, what are some ways that students can help offset the costs of higher education?" All entries are judged on their essay, resume, awards, extracurricular activities, volunteer services and work experience. Applications can be picked up at any of our branches or printed off of our website at www.ascentra.org.  The link to the form can be found on our Community Involvement section of our News/Events/Promotions page.  The deadline to apply is March 1, 2013. Awarding a total of $2,000 in scholarships is another way Ascentra Credit Union recognizes that financial planning and education is essential to lifetime success for our members and community.   "Listening, caring, doing what's right" are words the credit union follows every day.

One scholarship is for high school students planning to enter college.  The other scholarship is for members age 19 or over, considered non-traditional-aged or continuing education students.   The scholarship entrants will be judged on a 500 word essay on the topic, "With college tuition costs dramatically increasing year after year, besides scholarships, what are some ways that students can help offset the costs of higher education?" All entries are judged on their essay, resume, awards, extracurricular activities, volunteer services and work experience. Applications can be picked up at any of our branches or printed off of our website at www.ascentra.org.  The link to the form can be found on our Community Involvement section of our News/Events/Promotions page.  The deadline to apply is March 1, 2013. Awarding a total of $2,000 in scholarships is another way Ascentra Credit Union recognizes that financial planning and education is essential to lifetime success for our members and community.   "Listening, caring, doing what's right" are words the credit union follows every day.

January 12th - Trivia Night - LeClaire Civic Center benefiting the LeClaire Community Library. Only 2 Tables Left! RESERVATIONS SO FAR:  LeClaire Library Staff,  Zane Nielsen, Bettendorf Library, Willaredt/Black, Graupmann, Weaver, Mediacom , Leiby, Marcus, Keck, Martin, Miller, Friends of the LeClaire Community Library. If you don't have enough for a full table, we always have a few people that would like to come and join a table that isn't full. Cost is $10 per person with tables up to 8 people each, $50 per table minimum. Everyone will be entered for door prizes. You may bring your own beer, wine and snacks, but soda, water and snacks will also be for sale. January 13th - Family Day at Reusable Usables Creative Arts Center Family Yoga:  3:30-4:30 p.m. $20 per family up to four members/$5 additional per family member. Taught by yoga master Jennifer Vondracek.  Family yoga will be held once a month for families with children ages 2 & up.   No experience necessary.   Bring a water bottle and a towel or yoga mat for each family member. Join us afterwards for a FREE Wildtree family tasting party 5:00-6:00 p.m. Kate Ramsdell along with Reusable Usables and Kiddie Karrasel Academy will host a Wildtree family tasting party. January 19th - LeClaire Lions Club Annual Blood Drive facilitated by the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center - 7:00 to 11:00 AM in the Bridgeview Elementary School Cafeteria. Any first-time or long-time blood donors are welcome. Snacks and beverages will be provided to donors that morning. The folks at Buffalo Bill Museum hope to see you over the winter! It is a great place to take visiting family and friends and "free admission" is a benefit of your membership! The gift shop is also a great place to pick up unique items as well as books about local history, "Buffalo Bill" sweatshirts and t-shirts, and other items you can't find elsewhere!  The museum is open daily 9am to 4pm, and Sundays 12noon to 4pm.

 

Reusable Usables Planet Green After School Classes for kids Ages 6-12  Tuesday's & Thursday's 4:00-5:30 p.m. Learn creative fun ways to respect our planet with hands on eco-friendly art and educational activities based on the Iowa DNR Planet Patrol Series. Limit 25 per class. Thanks to Iowa DNR SWAP Grant funding.
