Thursday, November 30, through Sunday, December 10
Richmond Hill Barn Theatre, 600 Robinson Drive, Geneseo IL
Arriving at the Richmond Hill Barn Theatre a mere two years after its world premiere, the comedy Doublewide, Texas , running November 30 through December 10, is the latest Southern farce by the popular playwriting team of Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten, whose numerous stage hits – all recently produced in the area – include The Dixie Swim Club, Mama Won't Fly, Always a Bridesmaid, and The Red Velvet Cake War.
In this fast-paced comedy, the inhabitants of one of the smallest trailer parks in Texas – one consisting of four double-wides and a shed – are thrown for a loop when they realize the nearby town of Tugaloo is determined to annex them. The residents are also plagued by Haywood Sloggett, a curmudgeon from across the road who loathes their “trailer-trash” ways, particularly their decision to keep a life-size illuminated nativity scene up all year long. But these friends, enemies, and neighbors begin to formulate a plan to defeat the encroaching annexation – although the plan does also involve an attempt to secede from Texas.
Serving as Doublewide, Texas' director is longtime Richmond Hill favorite John VanDeWoestyne, a familiar actor at the venue whose directing credits there include The Boys Next Door, Laughing Stock, and Jones/Hope/Wooten titles Christmas Belles and Dearly Beloved. And with the Bay Review proclaiming “You will howl with laughter at these characters,” the show's cast of Doublewide residents and neighbors finds Lisa Ingram, in her Barn Theatre debut, appearing alongside an octet of Richmond Hill veterans: Faith Douglas, Eugenia Giebel, Diane Greenwood, Nathan Johnson, Sondra Karben, Jessica Moore, Justin Raver, and Mike Skiles.
Doublewide, Texas runs at the Richmond Hill Barn Theatre Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m., and tickets are $12. For more information and to reserve, call (309)944-2244 or visit RHPlayers.com.
