DES MOINES, IOWA (February 21, 2019) — Pulitzer Prize-winning Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan will headline the Iowa Association of Business and Industry's (ABI's) 2019 Taking Care of Business Conference, June 4-6, in Ames. DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 20, 2019) — On Tuesday, February 19, Davenport Fire crews were dispatched to the 900 block of West Second Street shortly after 8:30PM for a structure fire. When crews arrived, smoke was coming from the rear of the building where the door was on fire. Chief Jim Morris says this is a vacant property; however, there were remnants of individuals living in it. The structure received minor damage. No injuries were reported.

WASHINGTON DC (February 20, 2019) — In a unanimous ruling that is expected to curb attempts by local and state governments to increase their revenue by seizing private property using excessive, arbitrary asset forfeiture laws, a unanimous US Supreme Court has ruled in Timbs v State of Indiana that state governments must abide by the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition on the imposition of “excessive fines” for criminal offenses.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 20, 2019) — West Second Street is being closed between Gaines and Warren Streets for a water main break.  Brown Street is closed at 3rd St and at River Drive.

Individuals can access the Centennial bridge using 3rd or 4th Street to Gaines. Repairs are estimated to be complete, and the roads re-opened sometime Friday.

US president Donald Trump recently declared a "national emergency" under which he intends to divert money from the US Department of Defense's budget and use it to build a wall on the US-Mexico border.
