Davenport, IA (Aug. 14) – There is a growing national trend involving the shift of surgical cases from the traditional in-patient hospital setting into lower cost outpatient settings just like Mississippi Valley Surgery Center (MVSC). Patient-friendly facilities, care pathways and expert clinicians are the hallmarks of great healthcare. MVSC has been a national leader in innovative surgical care. Recently, as part of their strategic plan, MVSC completed its partnership with Unity Point Health Trinity and Surgical Care Affiliates and is moving into the second phase of their long-term growth plan.
One of only a handful of surgery centers in the country performing minimally invasive outpatient total joint replacement and spine surgery since the mid 1990’s, MVSC has become a destination site for patients, surgeons and other ambulatory surgery center teams wanting to learn our processes. The latest technology is available at MVSC such as the LenSx femtosecond laser cataract surgery, cutting-edge stimulator technology for pain, Iridex laser for retinal surgery, balloon sinuplasty for ENT, micro-invasive carpal tunnel releases and a host of other advanced surgical specialties.
MVSC was recently approved by the Iowa Department of Public Health, State Health Facilities Council to proceed with an $8 million dollar modernization project at their Dexter Court (Davenport) location. MVSC opened its doors in 1996 and has served more than 175,000 patients over the last 21 years. As part of their long-term strategic plan, the Board of Directors identified the need for a facility re-design and modernization in order to serve even more patients over the next 20 years.
Currently MVSC was only able to accommodate six overnight patients per day which are typically comprised of ENT, Ortho, Spine, General Surgery and Plastics. The modernization project will increase the number of overnight rooms to 14.
In addition, the modernization will ensure patient comfort and privacy by allowing each patient their own private room designed specifically for those undergoing outpatient surgery. As the demand for outpatient surgery increases and as the technology improves, allowing for more complex procedures to be performed in an outpatient setting, the physician leaders at MVSC recognized the need for state of the art facilities to ensure they are meeting their mission of Excellence in Care and Service.
Doctors, nurses and support staff have been instrumental in the design and development of the updated facility plan. MVSC recognizes when doctors and nurses are integral to the development of facility design, the resulting product will meet or exceed their patient’s expectations. The additional square footage combined with patient flow enhancements will ensure MVSC will meet its vision of being the Innovative Leader in Outpatient Care.
MVSC has selected Bush Construction as the general contractor and BLDD as the architect firm. The modernization project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018. Follow us on Facebook to see ongoing updates about the project.
