Water, Water Everywhere - A Local Event Seeks to Make a Global Difference
Third Annual Wells 4 Wellness 5K Run/Walk is July 12
MOLINE, Ill. (June 23, 2014) ? Quad City-area residents are invited to enjoy an event dedicated to good old H2O. The local nonprofit organization, Wells 4 Wellness, will hold its Third Annual 5KWalk/Run on July 12, 2014, Staging and stating line will now begin at the Moline Water Plant address 30 18th Street .Course is now along river drive heading west to 1st street and then return to The water plant.Funds raised at this event will provide persons in the Western African country of Niger access to clean, safe, water.
The race begins at 8 a.m. followed by a Kids4Water bucket relay at 9:00 a.m. and adult bucket relay at 9:15 a.m. Those watching the race can cool-off as the Moline Water Department opens fire hydrants along the racecourse.
"We are running to raise awareness and funds to support the building of wells for 30 communities in one of the world's most impoverished countries," said Pat Herath, founder of Wells4Wellness. "We enjoy that glass of clean water daily and may not give it much thought. The people in the Villages of Niger that for the ability to produce food, have good health and educate their children depends on access to a reliable water supply. Each race registrant will provide clean, safe water for a family of four for one year."
Participants have the option of carrying jugs filled with Mississippi River Water to demonstrate the burden of hauling water for basic household needs.
