Dr. Patricia Deegan to Speak at NAMI Mind & Body Workshop May 25 at St. Ambrose University
DAVENPORT, Iowa (March 28, 2016) – A nationally-recognized voice in the field of behavioral health, Patricia A. Deegan, PhD, has developed tools for individuals, families and psychiatrists to proactively work together to find the best treatment for a serious mental health condition. Considered a disruptive innovator, she will discuss the difference between maintenance and recovery-oriented systems of care at the Mind & Body Workshop on Wednesday, May 25 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at St. Ambrose University, Davenport. The event is organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness Greater Mississippi Valley.
Diagnosed with schizophrenia as a teenager, Deegan earned a doctorate in clinical psychology and founded an information technology company that offers web-based applications and tools for working towards recovery. She is an Adjunct Professor at Dartmouth College Geisel School of Medicine.
The workshop also features presentations from regional mental health and wellness experts on how to maintain wellness and recovery. Program topics include cultural competency for treating African Americans and practical applications of happiness. The program is designed for professionals, and individuals and families living with a serious mental health condition. Professional continuing education credits are available.
