Iowa/Illinois Quad Cities - On Sunday, January 10, 2016 the Metropolitan Community Church of the Quad Cities (“MCC QC”) will present its Outstanding Community Service Awards during the 11:00 a.m. worship service. The public is invited and light refreshments will be served following the service. Recipients include Damien Parizek, owner of Milan Flower Shop and former Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba.
Over the years, Damien Parizek has so often donated floral arrangements for special events for MCC QC and also for QC Pride, Inc. “He is a wonderfully talented person who just decides to help out very low-key and never seeks any recognition for his efforts,” says Rev. Rich Hendricks, MCC QC’s pastor.
In contrast, Mayor Bill Gluba maintains a very high public profile. “One of the reasons we are honoring Bill Gluba is because of his genuine caring for all people and his willingness to use his high profile when he was in office to help the gay community. Mayor Gluba was always there for making Davenport a gay-friendly city and for standing up for the rights of all people, including immigrants,” says Hendricks.
MCC QC began giving out awards for Outstanding Service to the Community about 25 years ago. “Now that we are back in our own building again, we’ve got some catching up to do in recognizing people who have made a difference,” says MCC QC Board member Jennifer Robb.
