Stavros Halkias at the Capitol Theatre -- April 12.
Saturday, April 12, 7 p.m.
Capitol Theatre, 330 West Third Street, Davenport IA
Having made Vulture’s 2023 list of “Comedians You Should and Will Know,” and having been identified by GQ as “at the front of a new wave of comedians," Stavros Halkias brings his tour to Davenport's Capitol Theatre on April 12, the funnyman also noted for being a founding member of the popular podcast Cum Town and appearing in Steven Soderbergh’s sci-fi series Command Z.
The 36-year-old Halkias began performing comedy while attending the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, at which he hosted a monthly comedy showcase. During this period, he was active in the greater Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia area, and was named Baltimore's New Comedian of the Year in 2012. He later moved to New York City, where he has since made numerous radio and podcast guest appearances, notably being co-host of and has written and performed on Adult Swim, IFC, and MSG Network's People Talking Sports and Other Stuff. Halkias has appeared in the Comedy Central series Comedy Central Stand Up Featuring, Life Fails, and Sex Fails, and has acted in other Internet shorts. He has also performed at venues including the New York Comedy Festival, and has opened for such acts as Wham City, Tom Papa, and Robert Kelly.
Halkias is known for the podcast Cum Town, which he co-hosted with Nick Mullen and Adam Friedland from 2016 until his departure in 2022. Since 2019, he has co-hosted the basketball podcast Pod Don't Lie with Sam Morril, having previously co-hosted White Chocolate NBA Pipecast with Friedland. He also hosted the Twitch series Stavvy Solves Your Problems from 2020 to 2021. In 2022, this series evolved into the podcast Stavvy's World, and that same year, Halkias released his first comedy special Live at The Lodge Room on his YouTube channel, which reached 2 million views in three weeks. His second special, Stavros Halkias: Fat Rascal, was released on Netflix in December 2023.
The touring comedian has become well known for his crowd work, often engaging actively with the audience and riffing on their stories and anecdotes. Many of his stand-up clips on his YouTube channel feature this practice, and he released a half-hour crowd-work-only comedy special, Four Nights In NYC. Last year, Halkias co-starred in the Netflix series Tires, also appearing on the talk show John Mulaney Presents: Everybody's in LA, and he starred in the independent comedy Let's Start a Cult, a film he co-wrote with director Ben Kitnick.
Stavros Halkias brings his "The Dreamboat Tour" to Davenport on April 12, admission to the 8 p.m. night of comedy is $37-57, and more information and tickets are available by visiting FirstFleetConcerts.com/first-fleet-vanues/capitol-theatre.
