Taking place on May 10 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., the Putnam Museum & Science Center's new springtime event The Putnam Palooza will treat guests to a celebration centered around spring and the community, with multiple partners of the Putnam and Quad Cities Cultural Trust joining forces to host live music, games, food trucks, displays, and much more.
Family-friendly activities and performances will be happening from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including Snap Circuits from STEAM on Wheels, plantings with the Quad City Botanical Center, face painting, and Chalk the Walk. Daytime performances will include Larry Lockwood, part of the Northern Cheyenne Nation, with Native American Storytime Drumming at 11 a.m. and Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico at 2 p.m. Additionally, a Bubble Party is scheduled on the South Lawn from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and a Foam Party is scheduled for 2:30 to 3 p.m.
Cindy Diehl Yang, CEO and President of the Putnam Museum, said about the event, “Putnam Palooza is our invitation to the entire community to come together, celebrate spring, and rediscover the joy of learning through play, culture, and connection. We’re proud to share this space with our incredible partners and neighbors – from families and food trucks to drummers and dancers. This is what the Putnam is all about – bringing people together to explore, imagine, and be inspired.”
After 5 p.m., Putnam Palooza After Dark will host live music in the Grand Lobby from local favorites Liv Carrow (6 p.m.), Subatlantic (7 p.m.), and CHRASH (8 p.m.). The Putnam Museum’s cash bar will be open along with a lemonade and beer stand. Multiple food trucks will be available in the parking lot along with the museum’s regular concession stand offerings such as pretzels, popcorn, and hot dogs. The event is free for all activities in the parking lot, Grand Lobby, and South Lawn.
Within the museum, the Putnam Education Department and Putnam Museum Guild will be hosting additional activities, including wildflower and pollinator-friendly seed bomb crafts. These can be found in the museum’s Fab Lab and new Activity Room. The current, temporary exhibit with hands-on activities, Mysteries of the Mayan Medallion, will be open, along with the freshly renovated interactive Science Center. To enter the Museum and Science Center, there will be regular ticketed admission of $12 for adults, $10 for students/military/seniors (with ID), and for youth ages three to 18. Ages two and under are free, as are Putnam Museum members.
