DAVENPORT, IOWA (June 17, 2024) — With the temperatures soaring, summertime is here, and Common Chord is inviting the public to its free Live at Five free summer concert series in the Skybridge Courtyard each Friday at 5PM through August 30. The complete Live at Five schedule can be accessed at commonchordqc.org.
In addition, with continued public support and rave reviews during the first two years, Common Chord’s OneSound Piano Program is back with additional locations. In 2022, Common Chord unveiled this creative placemaking program and continues to strategically place local artist-designed pianos in iconic Quad-City locations for the public to interact with, populating these spaces with music and vibrant art alike.
New this year is live piano painting at the Quad Cities International Airport by local artist and musician Regan Hatfield. The public can observe Hatfield most weekday mornings as he completes his design of the piano that will be placed in the airport’s atrium (between entrance doors five and six).
“Common Chord is serious about activating the power of music to improve our community, and OneSound is a great way to do just that here in the Quad Cities,” said Steve Ahrens, Director of Strategic Initiatives and OneSound Program Director. “How cool is it to bring people together in public spaces with music?”
Each year, Common Chord puts out a call for artists to design and paint additional pianos for the expanding program to be scattered across the Quad Cities. Organizers are considering other instruments to the project in the future.
This year, pianos will be place with partner organizations at:
- Niabi Zoo (Coal Valley)
- Freight House Farmers’ Market (Davenport)
- Quad City International Airport (Moline)
- Antique Archaeology (LeClaire)
- Quad City Botanical Center (Rock Island)
- River Center/Adler Theatre (Rock Island)
- Martin Luther King Center (Rock Island)
- Mercado on Fifth (Moline)
- VanderVeer Botanical Park (Davenport)
- Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center (Bettendorf)
- Lincoln Center (Davenport)
- Center for Active Seniors (Davenport)
- Redstone Building (Davenport)
Pianos will be in place beginning the week of June 24 and remaining until next May.
Partial support for the program comes from Supporting Program Sponsors: Iowa Arts Council, Davenport Riverfront Improvement Commission, QC International Airport, and Davenport Parks and Recreation. Core mission support of Common Chord is provided by Quad Cities Cultural Trust.
